Brown-Forman Financial Analyst International (1 year Maternity Leave Cover) in Barcelona, Spain

Scope of Position

This position will be responsible for accounting related to International markets and certain Corporate accounting functions. The analyst ensures the accuracy of Brown-Forman’s financial records for appointed countries. Will provide analytical support to the Europe Controller and will participate in certain special projects as they arise. Limited travel



The integrity of Financial Records:

Responsible for ensuring that Brown-Forman’s financial records are maintained in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), management reporting and local statutory requirements.


Serves as a business partner to the respective operating units. Responsible for ensuring the accuracy of all financial records, including financial statements and general ledger data.

Actively participates in the accounting/finance process by providing insight and support to the Europe Controller. Observes, applies and ensures US and local GAAP and appropriate internal controls are followed for the business.

Some specific accounting duties are:

  • Accounting support for various European markets including:

  • Prepare reconciliations and analysis of corporate balance sheet accounts

  • Margin support, intercompany funding, and billings and other general accounting

  • USD balance sheet revaluation

  • Royalty calculations and invoicing

  • Recharging A&P to IP owners

  • Balancing payments

  • Bank reconciliations and FEBA

  • AP and AR functions

  • VAT reporting and return preparation

  • Working with external accounting providers for statutory filings. Preparation of income tax package for Tax dept.

  • Manage month end close accounting with external accounting providers and internal accounting teams

  • Responsible for handling A&P and DA invoices for Nordic Baltics markets

  • Assist in preparation of statutory filings and participate in annual audits (internal & external)

  • MSA accounting for various European entities


Assist the Regional Accounting Manager in performing insightful, clear analysis of international operations. Includes analyzing performance versus various measures to identify areas for improvement and potential problems.

Special Projects:

Manages multiple projects under tight time constraints. Some examples are:

  • Determining expense classifications are understood by the field and company policy is adhered to

  • Assist with RTC issues related to a new model, for example, accounting for buyback of inventory, credit memos to distributors, implementation of correct accounting for a new entity, set up of new vendors, MSA agreements, Implementation of new IT tools ( Coupa, Concur...etc)

  • Assist Tax with local tax projects and transfer pricing studies

  • Be part of Internal Audit team and work with them on specific projects

  • Changes in processes necessitated by a change in the business including supply chain changes

  • Ad hoc requests related to International activities

Balance Sheet Account Analysis:

Responsible for ensuring balance sheet account analyses for international markets are prepared, understood, documented and submitted in a timely manner. Assure US GAAP is followed for all entities. Also responsible for the creation of certain corporate balance sheet account analysis.

Ensure support documentation related to each Balance Sheet reconciliation is provided.


  • BS or BA in Accounting or Finance plus three to five years of experience in finance /accounting field.

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting/analysis.

  • Knowledge of other European GAAP is highly preferred (Italian, Romanian, Dutch...etc).

  • Certified Public Accountant or international equivalent is highly preferred.

  • Experience working in a finance function in a matrixed organization (preferably the US or multinational) with complex reporting and an understanding of how these tie into the business

  • Fluent spoken and written English. Other European languages are preferred ( Italian, Spanish, Dutch..etc).

  • Experience in the FMCG industry an advantage.

  • Experience using SAP ERP a distinct advantage.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and complete workload within designated time giving close attention to detail to ensure work is complete and accurate.

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and with heavy workloads. Proven ability to complete high-quality work product within established time frames. Work with ambiguous situations with little supervision.

  • Possess the ability, desire, and skills necessary to interact with upper management and to advance within the organization.#ND 1
