Position Title: Category Development Manager - Walgreens

Reports To: Category Development Sr. Manager
This position will lead Category Development responsibilities for Walgreens through the analysis of scan data, consumer insights, and industry trends to help drive sales growth by helping Walgreens to maximize their resources and uncovering opportunities within the spirits and sparkling wine categories. This position will drive the Category Development strategy in Walgreens through the formulation of ideas to address the strategic needs and requirements of key stakeholders.
Establish expertise in Walgreen’s business model and set overall Category Management strategy for the customer.
Partner with Walgreens and Suppliers to lead the Category Management initiative that supports profitable sales growth with the customer, to include:
Create strategies that assist in efficient assortment analysis, Space to Sales, and Cluster development
Identify portfolio growth opportunities that are mutually beneficial to Brown-Forman and Walgreens by uncovering opportunities to assist Walgreens in driving sales initiatives and growth potential through assessment of internal data, syndicated data, market visits, and investigation of consumer trends.
Drive the schematic process to ensure new item and shelf strategy implementation
Act as category expert by objectively driving Category Development principles and solutions through the use of internal data, Nielsen, Spectra data, quantitative custom research studies and internal depletion for Walgreens and all store formats
Support Walgreens and Brown-Forman by providing reports and insights for account initiatives and review meetings, to include:
Develop and interpret weekly scorecard using internal data and develop into strategies to grow Spirit business by store
Prepare and analyze opportunity gaps, evaluate category promotional activity to optimize lifts, and identify the potential to maximize distribution and assortment
Analyze impacts of programs in key selling channels and evaluate them for effectiveness to build on successful programs
Develop and deliver ongoing market analysis and assessment of competitors and market intelligence with a focus on the future and value creation
Prepare and deliver Category Overviews for Walgreens through the implementation of Category Development principles, with core focus on delivering trend observations, drivers, and strategic recommendations against the 4 P’s
Drive insight-based, forward-looking category development tests, formats, and ideas, that challenge the current merchandising and promoting approaches to the category and show potential to unlock growth.
Prioritize, and steward, the key innovative initiatives for the Walgreens to maximize the category size and growth – while accounting for Brown-Forman resources and portfolio to leverage these priorities and grow value share.
Strengthen and develop account relations through the objective presentation and participation in key Walgreens meetings, delivering value-added insights and recommendations to grow category and brand sales
Enable internal communication & collaboration to maximize alignment and strong execution of Walgreen’s priorities against Brown-Forman brands/programs.
- Provide support to Sr. CDM for internal Category Management initiatives by collaborating on Consumer and Shopper Intelligence group projects.

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree plus 5-7 years’ experience, or; Master’s degree plus 2-4 years’ experience or equivalent experience. 3-5 years analytical or Category Development or Validator experience working within the CPG industry
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on projects with cross-functional teams
Expertise with analytical software including (internal account data), Nielsen or IRI; Spectra and Prospace/Apollo desired
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong ability to influence w/o authority, show value for all constituencies, and lead a system towards a common destination.
Sales presentation building and delivery experience
Strong Excel, PowerPoint, and Word skills, Access skills a plus
Store Clustering and Segmentation analysis desired
Ability to think strategically and work in a team environment
Ability to travel 30-40% of the time
Beverage alcohol experience
