Scope/Purpose:

The Director, Latin America & Caribbean is the primary representative for Brown-Forman responsible for overseeing all business activity in the markets of the Caribbean, Central America and South America, excluding the PUB territory (Paraguay, Uruguay, Brazil). Major markets include Chile, Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Panama, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic. This position will be responsible for the development and growth of Brown-Forman’s business in the territory, representing over 400,000 cases, $40 million in net sales and $29 million in gross profit. This position will be the primary implementer of the territory’s 2025 strategic plan.

The Director will lead a team of approximately ten employees speared across the territory.

The Director will be an active member of the IMEA CCSA leadership team, providing leadership to the brand building strategies of the organization and engagement in regional strategies, issues and opportunities. The Director will be expected to have high level visibility with senior B-F management.

Partners with: Regional finance and marketing directors, corporate services such as legal, tax, production, credit and customer service.

Basic Function:

To be the pivotal in-market resource for B-F managing all aspects of the business, driving growth and maximizing brand profit in a challenging and competitive marketplace and implementing a new ten year strategic plan. Responsibilities include sales, marketing, and finance. Directly manage a team of B-F marketing and finance personnel along with dedicated distributor professionals. The Director is responsible for all aspects of B-F’s route to consumer activities, including, leading the development and implementation of distribution strategy. Depending on portfolio strategy needs, the role may also work closely with B-F colleagues, including production, tax and logistics, to develop in-country RTD production. Where appropriate, the role will represent B-F’s interests with in-market organizations and in internal company discussions.

Responsibilities:

  • Establishes clear vision and business priorities to ensure consistent, profitable growth. Leads the overall business planning process and champions the market in all internal resource allocation discussions. Directs all business initiatives that will drive profitable growth.

  • Lead the business operation and organization in all aspects of the business and develop and lead the strategic direction of B-F business in the territory.

  • Develop and direct brand building efforts on B-F’s brands across the territory. Seek new growth opportunities, such as new product ideas, new distribution or marketing channels, and new sizes, while simultaneously prioritizing opportunities.

  • Key B-F contact responsible for day to day, communications between B-F and all other functions within our distributor partner. Responsible for all facets of distributor management, including the most appropriate route-to-market arrangement for our brands in each market in the territory. Working with the distributor, manage account, customer and channel priorities through the distributor and wholesaler network. Negotiate and manage distributor investment and support.

  • Works closely with marketing resources to develop comprehensive marketing plans for key territories and basic marketing plans for lower priority territories. Ensure that B-F’s brand plans for the territory are successfully activated by all other functions within our distributor partner.

  • Lead and manage the local B-F team in all aspects from hiring, education, and training. Develop a strong team that strives for extraordinary success and works together as a team. Responsible for working with HR partners to build team skills, drive career development and ensure employee engagement with broader company.

  • Responsible for building capability with all parties who work with B-F. Champion of processes, tools and KPIs. Develops in-house expertise in running a successful third party, cost sharing or own distribution set up.

  • Operates effectively with and through key stakeholders including regional marketing and finance directors. Works closely with the Regional and Division Finance Managers to ensure implementation and accountability of business plans and delivery of financial objectives.

  • B-F point person to all external parties, government agencies, lobby groups, legal, trade bodies, etc.

  • Point person in all Alcohol Responsible Marketing issues and compliance with B-F Responsible Marketing and Promotion Guidelines.

  • Point person for all B-F Internal Audit discussions and negotiations with distributors.

  • Responsible for all compliance issues in the region, including ensuring that B-F and its partners uphold the requirements of U.S. and local anti-corruption laws and regulations, including the Unites States’ Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and the U.K. Anti-Bribery Act.

Must Requirements:

  • Degree in Business, Marketing, International Marketing or equivalent discipline.

  • 10+ years in progressive sales and/or marketing management experience.

  • Proven general and commercial management experience with FMCG, including P&L responsibility.

  • Ability to work across cultures and to clearly communicate complex ideas in a diverse environment.

  • Ability to manage a diverse team of professionals spread across a large geography, building team skills and fostering organizational cultural alignment.

  • Developing others, leadership, performance management and coaching experience.

  • Business acumen, flexibility, problem-solving and working with others.

  • Good presentation and influencing skills.

  • A team player able to work with others within a multinational company.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Post Graduate Qualification in a business related area.

  • Experience in international sales and brand management of FMCG in more than one country.

  • Knowledge and experience in dealing with distribution channels.

  • Previous knowledge in beverage alcohol industry.
