Position Summary:

The Director, Digital Compliance position is a senior level, strategic leadership role that is a critical asset to the Brown-Forman Marketing business. This role champions the use of emerging digital marketing technologies for Brown-Forman’s overall Brand Portfolio while working with Brown-Forman Legal and global regulatory groups to ensure that international, federal, and state regulations are adhered to. This position reports to the Director, Digital/Media Center of Excellence and maintains key partnerships with the SVP General Counsel, NAR and LAR and all levels of the Brown-Forman Marketing organization. As our digital marketing efforts continue to grow in both volume and in number of markets, BF Marketing needs an experienced individual to provide digital marketing compliance guidance across our global portfolio of brands. Demonstrate industry knowledge/expertise by collaborating with Global Brand Marketing Teams to translate strategy into marketing technology, ensure compliance with global, regulatory policies and generate actionable insights. Oversee the development of digital marketing technology best practices in conjunction with compliance regulations. Be an evangelist to increase the level of innovation in social marketing by educating Global Brand Marketing Teams, Brown-Forman Legal, Technology Groups and external partners (i.e., agencies and platform providers) on digital brand strategies, emerging opportunities for digital advertising, web presence, social media, direct consumer communications and relationship marketing. This role is highly respected globally and maintains a high value of trust to ensure our brands are marketed responsibly, reflecting our company’s prestigious ideals and impeccable standards.

Responsibilities:

  • In-depth understanding of alcohol marketing policies and best practices. As an expert in digital advertising compliance, work in partnership with BF Legal to ensure compliance guidelines and regulations (Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (DISCUS), Spirits EU, Alcohol Beverage Advertising Code (ABAC), and other federal and state regulatory organizations) are followed across our global portfolio of brand.

  • Work in partnership with SVP, General Counsel NAR/LAR to plan and direct best practices, policies and procedures that specify the guidelines for regulatory digital advertising compliance at the global, regional and state level.

  • Monitor related legislative activity at both the international, federal and state levels to ensure that the company's digital marketing policies have timely, relevant and accurate advertising compliance related content. Proactively inform SVP, General Counsel NAR/LAR and Director, Digital/Media CoE of new content based on legislative developments and incorporate into company's digital marketing policies.

  • Direct the development of digital marketing best practices by guiding the implementation of approved digital technologies across the Brown-Forman Digital Marketing landscape to ensure digital strategies are achieved successfully. In-depth knowledge of social media platform policies and functionality to ensure they are being followed by all BF digital programs.

  • Work in partnership with SVP, General Counsel NAR/LAR to provide strategic leadership to drive innovation in the use of emerging digital technologies. Research the use of emerging technologies by conducting analyses in conjunction with digital advertising compliance and regulatory policies. Present new opportunities to SVP, General Counsel NAR/LAR for approval and once approved, recommend new opportunities to Global Brand Marketing Teams.

  • Stay current and monitor competitors' digital marketing initiatives and make recommendations for opportunities in digital advertising.

  • Counsel Global Marketing Teams to ensure that programs are being developed and executed in accordance with international, federal and state regulations. Provide guidance to this team to ensure that digital strategies are efficiently implemented and evaluated.

  • Work in partnership with Corporate Privacy Officer to provide guidance and assistance in the identification, implementation and maintenance of privacy and data protection policies worldwide.

  • Direct the overall processes involved with annual audits on consumer data privacy and social media across our global portfolio of brands.

  • Determine gaps in current knowledge that prevent optimal decision-making on digital strategies and be responsible for conducting in person training programs worldwide to the Global Brand Marketing Teams on marketing technology tools and concepts.

  • Responsible for the research, development and communication of Global Digital Compliance policies, regulations and procedures to meet government, industry and company requirements surrounding digital marketing. This is accomplished by conducting educational programs for social media community management training and new agency on-boarding to agency partners and distributors worldwide.

  • Oversee the development of written guidelines for all approved digital technologies and make these guidelines available to the Global Brand Marketing Teams, Agency Partners and Distributors worldwide.

  • Develop and maintain working relationships with approved social media channel partners (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Drizly, iBotta, etc.). Serve as expert to these partners in evaluating new features for digital compliance.

  • Engage with Brown-Forman marketing business partners and provide ongoing education in the areas of digital marketing compliance. This includes hosting monthly web meetings for the Greenhouse Agency and The Hive and conducting annual in person training to this team on marketing technology tools and concepts.

  • Manage a team of 1 full-time and 1 temporary employee to maintain focus, a high level of productivity, efficiency and quality of work.

  • Direct the overall processes for access levels for digital marketing enterprise technology toolsets and digital access requests from agency partners worldwide to include Web/FTP permissions for digital agency partners and/or the social media community management toolset. This involves scheduling training sessions, granting access, distributing additional compliance resources and administering the master list of agency partners, which is critical for audit purposes.

Must Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree and 5-7 years of relevant experience

  • 3-5 years in a supervisory/management role; demonstrated experience managing and motivating skilled personnel to complete assignments on schedule

  • Highly motivated, entrepreneurial personality to continuously advocate innovation and drive for results

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills: strong presentation abilities to bridge the gap between technology and marketing and superior collaboration and teamwork skills to include communicating with agency and distributor partners where English is not the predominant language

  • In-depth understanding of digital marketing (digital and CRM), industry landscape and consumer requirements in the digital space to provide subject matter expertise while working with Digital Marketing Managers, agencies and Global Brand Marketing Teams. This includes understanding usage and opportunities for consumer engagement with current and emerging media/channels like social networking sites and mobile marketing.

  • Provide leadership and mentoring to the Digital Marketing Team utilizing best practices as an organizational leader

  • A strategic thinker with experience in contributing, developing and executing digital strategies in the following areas: Mobile, Social Media, Search and Branded Websites

  • Deep understanding of global data privacy laws and international trade practice regulations for the alcoholic beverage industry

  • Aptitude and interest in working with international regulatory laws concerning digital marketing compliance and data privacy

  • Demonstrated experience in developing relationships and working with all levels in the organization, agency and distributor partners

  • Proven experience with managing indirect or matrixed working relationships

  • Achievement/results oriented

  • Expected to work with minimal supervision; highly developed independent decision making skills

Preferred Skills:

  • Master's Degree and 7 plus years of experience
