Brown-Forman Lead Accountant Corporate Accounting in Louisville, Kentucky
Serving as a business partner with the corporation and its operating units, this individual is responsible for managing, facilitating, and coordinating financial accounting, reporting, and analytical activities with a focus on communicating quantitative and qualitative information in a clear, accurate, and timely manner.
Manage financial reporting & analyses activities associated with the corporation and/or operating unit(s). This also includes, accounting, analysis and reporting for the Corporate functional area. Interpret and explain unusual variances to management.
Lead initiatives related to activities to be centralized at Corporate (e.g. brand expense accrual accounting and analysis, balance sheet account reconciliations involving multiple regional activities. This will involve working with Regional Controllers and other cross functional departments.
Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations.
Review Corporate journal entries & reconciliations as assigned.
Provide financial support and service to senior management and lead research activities and analyses of selected financial statement accounts related to balance sheet account fluctuation analysis.
Identify and coordinate financial systems (SAP, BW), procedures, reports, and timing requirements. Conduct reviews of financial activity to ensure accuracy and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), tax, and legal entity structures.
Ensure appropriate internal controls are in place and in compliance with corporate financial policies. Provide and implement recommendations for improvements to internal controls and policies.
Manage special projects as required, such as foreign exchange analysis , strategic development projects, and corporate requests; develop presentations to management.
Intercompany accounting (license fees, dividends, royalty etc.), invoicing and reconciliations on Corporate books for various entities including Sonoma-Cutrer, Finlandia Vodka, Chambord, and JDPI
Company wide inventory reserve analysis
Housing investment accounting
Trial balance validation and load for companies not on B-F ERP system
Slow-moving inventory analysis
Coordinate other corporate groups accounting including Global brands, Government Relations.
Managing year end process and accruals
Manage direct charge process for corporation. Work with finance areas to ensure assessments are set up according to the planning guidance for the upcoming fiscal year. This includes requesting, receiving and analyzing information, as well as entering data into SAP
Financial Analysis and Reconciliations
Assist with balance sheet account fluctuation analysis as needed for regions
Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations, including those accounts involving multiple regional activities
Review journal entries and reconciliations as assigned.
Lead research activities and analyses of selected financial statement accounts related to balance sheet fluctuation analysis such discount accrual, brand expense accrual.
Lead Corporate initiatives to centralize certain activities such as brand expense accrual for regions, consistency in inventory reserve accounting and inventory policy, centralizing financial analysis and reconciliations for critical balance sheet accounts.
BS/BA in accounting or finance
More than 4 years of experience in the field of Accounting and Analytics
CPA or equivalent degree Required
Working knowledge or willingness to learn and understand US GAAP and apply practically
Superior attention to detail with top-notch accuracy
Ability to validate, analyze and sort through large amounts of data
Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, comfortable playing an active role in presenting results in a clear, concise format
Thorough understanding of P&Ls
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Self-motivated to work independently and manage multiple projects within tight timelines
Demonstrated expertise in Microsoft Excel (including graphing, pivot tables, V-lookups and other advanced functions) and PowerPoint
Team-player with the ability to create partnerships and build effective relationships
Strong intellectual curiosity, problem solving and conceptual skills
Comfortable with having to adjust to changes in work environment, work under pressure with a sense of urgency, meet tight deadlines and operate in a challenging data/systems environment
Strong sense of accountability and ownership
