Brown-Forman LIFO Inventory & Whiskey Planning Analyst in Louisville, Kentucky

Job Description:

Scope :

The function of this position is two-fold: (1) support LIFO and inventory processes by completing LIFO estimate calculations, analyzing data/trends, and ensuring the integrity of B-F inventory and (2) to be the support analyst and modeler for the development of whiskey production planning, liquidations and barrel production. This includes analyzing, compiling and inputting model variables to support our whisky planning and LIFO calculations. This position will work with multiple cross functional groups within Brown-Forman.

Responsibilities:

LIFO (50-60%)

  • Facilitate the timely completion of multiple LIFO calculations for B-F’s 8 LIFO pools

  • Prepare various LIFO estimates (GAAP, Tax and UNICAP) at multiple times throughout the year, including budget, projections, and quarterly tax estimates.

  • Record associated monthly and year-end Tax/GAAP journal entries and maintain the associated account reconciliations for all LIFO Reserve accounts

  • Assist with analyzing various LIFO inputs, such as distillery costs, wood costs, aging costs, and FG/WIP/RM inventory located at bottling plants and multiple warehouses

  • Complete branding of LIFO estimates (Reserve and (Inc)/Exp ) for internal management/brand reporting; prepare communication and schedules to provide to financial planning/brand groups

  • Assist LIFO Senior Manager in providing requested information, answering questions, and facilitating knowledge sharing with internal and external auditors

  • Complete LIFO portion of the annual report footnote

  • Develop and maintain the ability to work independently within the highly technical and complex LIFO environment

Aged Spirits Modeling (30-40%)

  • Analyze, compile and input data, primarily barrel whisky inventory, 9LC shipments and cost data, into the iLog liquidation model

  • Independently run/”de-bug” the liquidation model, print reports and assist the Director of Whisky Planning in analyzing the results and the factors/variables which influence those results.

  • Function as the primary liquidation model support for small / craft line extensions not fully integrated into iLog liquidation model. These currently include Woodford Double Oaked and JD Gold but may extend to other brands.

  • Support the development of the Whisky Liquidation Model for our Scotch and Irish brands, as needed

  • Prepare and update demand input sheets for distribution to brand teams. Compile and consolidate completed sheets from brand, check for accuracy, and analyze changes.

  • Prepare data for contents portion of cost standards and assist the Director of Whisky Planning in analyzing trend data associated with annual changes.

Inventory and Other Duties (10%)

  • Reconcile inventory G/L accounts in accordance with B-F’s policy

  • Complete monthly activities and journal entries related to key Inventory and FET accounts

  • Assist with improving the process for compiling Actual and 13 Pt Average branded GAAP inventory reports

  • Make monthly foreign currency journal entry and reconcile monthly barrel whisky inventory for Canadian Mist

  • Prepare analysis of B-F inventory in order to identify trends and report findings

Must Requirements / Competencies:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting or relevant field with 3+ years experience working in Finance, Accounting or related analytical field.

  • Strong attention to detail with consistent display of accuracy.

  • Strong analytical capabilities and excel / computer modeling experience.

  • Knowledge of computer systems in a manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to build productive relationships and partnerships and influence others.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage projects; ability to multi-task and work with a results focus.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft office and Google software.

Preferred Requirements

  • CPA and /or CMA Certificate

  • Accounting experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Experience with SAP preferred #SM 1
