Brown-Forman Controller, Jack Daniel's Distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee
Directly responsible for the financial leadership, control, analysis and reporting of Jack Daniel Distillery, Lem Motlow Prop., Inc. Operations (22 salary and 81 hourly employees). Represents an annual operating budget of $70MM - $80MM, capital budget of $3MM - $8MM, 35MM – 45MM OPGs distillery production, 8MM bushels of grain purchases and . This position directly supervises one finance professional.
Directly responsible for the timely reporting, interpretation and clear communication of financial performance for the Jack Daniel Distillery, Lem Motlow Prop., Inc. operations, including development of annual budget, capital plan, cost reduction plan, balance sheet analysis, investment base data, monthly projections, LIFO inventory analysis/reporting, inter-company sales/accounting, and analysis of production cost.
Controlling and Accounting (60%)
Responsible for the monthly closing function and related financial analysis and reporting of results for Production and G & A departments including production cost, variance from budget, intercompany sales, LIFO projection data, and cost per original proof gallon information. Provide and interpret analysis for plant management and Global Production Finance.
Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of the general ledger and make independent decisions regarding adjustments. Responsible for balance sheet account reconciliations and analysis for the Jack Daniel Distillery operations. Responsible for periodic general ledger closing cycle and subsequent preparation of financial statements and related analyses to accurately reflect business activity based on generally accepted accounting practices (GAAP).
Maintains and improves system of internal controls through regular independent reviews and process modifications as needed, through internal and external audit.
Performs calculations and analysis for LIFO inventory reporting for the Jack Daniel Distillery operations
Ensures timely and accurate physical inventory counts and oversees raw material subledger. Initiates review and proper valuation adjustments for grain and wood inventories. Evaluate effectiveness of processes, identifies and communicate issues and partners with operations management to drive improvement.
Coordinates and monitors cash transfers between the Jack Daniel Distillery and Brown-Forman Treasury. department to ensure proper balancing of intercompany accounts and segregation of company transactions.
Directs the preparation of any government reporting required of the Jack Daniel Distillery, Lem Motlow Prop., Inc. subsidiary.
Financial Leadership and Analysis (25%)
Provide business counsel and financial leadership to plant management at Jack Daniel Distillery, Lem Motlow Prop., Inc. Provide insightful, accurate analyses in support of strategic decisions.
Oversees the preparation of the annual operating budget for the distillery. Applies a high degree of independent thinking and decision making. Challenges operations and management to set ambitious yet achievable goals.
Work with local teams and engineering to develop capital budget. Provides support and assists in development of Capital Appropriation Requests (CAR) including cost-benefit analysis in support on investments. Ensure effective use of financial resources an adherence to related policies and procedures. Lead monitoring and reporting of monthly capital expenditure, timely closure of capital projects and proper classification of resulting fixed assets.
Provide information and insight to Global Production Finance for the whiskey planning process and works with distillery operations to ensure distillery production plan is accurately implemented and followed.
Direct supervision of one direct report. Manage the selection, development, measurement and motivation of staff team members. Recognize and reward diversity practices.
Other Duties (15%)
As needed, support Jack Daniel leadership, Global Production Finance and Global Production Leadership
Must Requirements / Competencies:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance plus 6-7 years accounting experience in a manufacturing environment including accounting management experience. Demonstrated proficiency in applying GAAP principles
Demonstrated ability to manage and complete workload, ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships with people of all levels, and complete work with established deadlines maintaining close attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
Ability to build productive relationships and partnerships and influence others.
Ability to lead change and drive for continuous improvement.
Excellent business planning and analytical skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft office and google software.
Proficiency with SAP-ERP software including the following modules: financial accounting, investment management, controlling, and treasury
CPA, MBA and /or CMA Certificate.
