Brown-Forman Senior Accountant - JDPI in San Rafael, California
The Senior Accountant supports the JDPI Controller and is responsible for a wide range of accounting and financial analysis for JDPI (Jack Daniel’s Properties, Inc.). This position will work with other cross functional groups within Brown-Forman. This position will lead initiatives to identify accounting, process or SOX control issues within JDPI; will have an opportunity to recommend process re-engineering to drive accuracy and efficiency; and will work with the JDPI Controller to strategize accounting and control advice to the region’s finance team and lead resolutions within NAR divisions.
Track trademark legal expense used for reporting trademarks by matter, brand, operating group and tax entities.
Analyze spend by operating group and tax entity and explain variances. Propose necessary journal entries.
Responsible for cash, A/R and A/P entries for monthly close. Reconcile G/L accounts conforming to Brown-Forman’s policy.
Manage royalty accounting including top level audits of licensee royalty reports for accuracy, record licensees’ accruals and payments and track each licensees’ activity against license terms.
Prepare commission statements for licensing agents.
Participate in audits of licensees’ royalty reports with 3 rd party auditing firm. Limited travel may be required.
Process vendor invoices for payment including facilitating compliance screening of new vendors and year-end tax reporting.
Manage cash flow ensuring sufficient funds for operations and proper utilization of excess cash.
Manage annual trademark legal budget including sourcing budget information and analyzing current year cost trends and applying those trends to propose budget amounts.
Prepare business license and property tax filings.
Participate in the implementation of new software for the electronic processing of accounts payable. Develop process to import data into general ledger and on-line banking application.
Other ad hoc reporting and accounting support as needed.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
At least 2 years of public accounting experience with an additional 1 to 3 years in a corporate accounting department
Exposure to AccPac plus
High proficiency in Excel, including Pivot Tables, V-Look Up, Index Match, If Then Statements.
