Brown-Forman Startup Manager (GlenDronach Distillery expansion)- 3 Year Fixed Term Contract in Aberdeenshire, United Kingdom

GlenDronach distillery is due to undergo a large expansion project in line with strategic priorities and brand growth. This role will lead and manage the decommissioning, commissioning, and startup of each of the GlenDronach expansion phases.

Meaningful Work From Day One

Review and verify the project scope, equipment selection and system layouts with the Project Manager and the Distilleries Manager ensuring each phase of the project is taken through the CQV process of Commission, Qualification and Verification. Lead and manage in a manner consistent with company culture, objectives, practices, and policies. Provide operational direction and consistency to enhance productivity, quality, safety, environmental, and compliance.

What You Can Expect

Leadership / Planning / Administration:

● Provide leadership and vision in line with the distillery expansion project to support short and long-term operating objectives.

● Accomplish CQV objectives by establishing plans, supporting budgets and result measurements.

● Ensures uniform application and consistency of Company policies and procedures and develops good employee relations.

● In partnership with Distilleries Manager optimises production schedules to meet expansion goals and timelines.

● Collaborates with the Distilleries Manager and Production manager to ensure production is maintained throughout the duration of the expansion project.

● Work with the Project Manager to develop the preliminary start-up plan for project preparation including start-up budget, start-up ladder, organization of start-up team including appropriate training plans

● Develop and finalize SOPs, Work Instructions, and other Training Documentation

● Promotes company image by collaborating with employees, customers, government officials and community organizations, following and enforcing ethical business practices.

Production / Safety / Quality / Environmental:

● Drive the safety of the project including compliance to the site's EHS STI metrics along with ensuring that safe working conditions exist and that all programs and policies are effectively implemented and practiced, including COMAH, ATEX, DSEAR and CDM 2015.

● Leads the CQV process in collaboration with the production management team.

  • Installation Qualification (IQ)

  • Ensures CQV Success Criteria developed for equipment readiness in Commissioning

  • Safety Inspections, Training & Risk Assessments

  • Determines plant resource needs, training plan and creates schedules accordingly

  • Capture preliminary Process Centerlines (PCLs)

  • Documentation development: LOTO procedures, Labeling/Visual Controls, Etc.

  • Develop and publish Start-up Ladder

  • Develop Commissioning Plan including weekly detailed activities, training & resource planning

  • Work with site to determine spare parts to order

Commissioning (C)

  • Lead development of Operations and Maintenance SOPs, OPLs, CILs & Centerlines ▪ Support Training and begin documentation development (including LOTO procedures)

  • Support Induced Failure Tests to learn and document troubleshooting skills

  • Perform job hazard & ergonomics analysis

  • Label equipment

  • Order operating supplies

  • Schedule post construction and pre-saleable production CIPs

  • Schedule final walk through prior to Qualification

Qualification (Q)

  • Facilitate Daily Meeting

  • Data Tracking to identify gap opportunities

  • Finalize SOPs, WIs, CILs, Centerlines and other Training Documentation

  • Lead Operations Team in beginning to produce saleable product

  • Ensure technicians are qualified and team capability is at the desired level

  • Begin transitioning ownership of the system to the Site Team

Verification (V)

  • Fully transition data tracking to the Site Team

  • Facilitate final check (close out meeting) versus the Project Success Criteria

  • Ensures reliability and consistency of production, product quality, governmental compliance, employee safety, and environmental impact.

  • Ensure that safe working conditions exist and that all programs and policies are effectively implemented and practiced, including European OSHA, COMAH, and ATEX.

  • Ensure compliance with BF quality policies, standards, and systems including plant sanitation and GMP procedures.

HR Management:

● Fosters an environment that is inclusive of everyone by driving accountability at all levels and valuing the contributions of all employees. Promotes a shared understanding of organizational values, operating principles, and company culture to support the achievement of business goals.

● Collaborates with the Distilleries management team in training the local teams to ensure a high level

of competency in running and managing the new equipment, ensuring they can achieve production goals.

Financial Management:

● Has a deep awareness of and supports the project budget including forecast spend to ensure project budget is delivered effectively.

We Are Looking For People Who Have

● Bachelor’s degree in engineering, chemistry, business, or related field with experience in distillery leadership roles, leading and developing people and teams. Equivalent education and experience combinations will be considered.

● Demonstrated understanding of distillery operations and equipment, continuous improvement methodologies, as well as quality, safety, and environmental practices.

● Demonstrated inclusive leadership and excellent communication skills. Ability to build and sustain excellent business relationships internally and externally.

● Strong business, financial, and analytical acumen.

● Ability to diagnose manufacturing issues and problem solve solutions to increase operational efficiencies and cost control.
