Lead big, profit driving consumer/shopper opportunities, inspiring brand teams, distributor partners and senior leadership teams, by understanding what matters to consumers/shoppers and overall market landscape and delivering insights which unlock significant brand and business growth, connecting the dots between consumer, shopper and trade insights.
Serve as member of the Africa Marketing Leadership Team to be a strategic ‘thought partner’ in the identification, development, targeting and monitoring of success across all of Africa.
Provide actionable business and strategy recommendations based on insightful consumer/shopper understanding, research implementation and analysis. The role will guide & support the Marketing team to inform and influence portfolio and innovation strategies across the continent.
Provide insights to marketing and commercial teams on consumer, category, channel, customer & trade environment trends and, work on strategic initiatives to identify opportunities across these dimensions.
What You Can Expect
Insights Generation:
Lead the identification of critical knowledge gaps relative to consumers, shoppers and the marketplace, and champion the development of solutions to address.
Lead continuous analysis of market trends (IWSR, Retail audit data, Brand Tracker etc.) as well as ad-hoc research projects needed to address key business priorities or knowledge gaps.
Generate actionable insights about the brands, consumers, market trends to assist in the development of brand and portfolio strategies.
Collaborate with brand teams in the development of brand building strategies and activations by performing analyses and preparing recommendations, including setting up consumer-led KPIs as appropriate.
Collaborate with IMC to assess communications planning and performance across key KPIs.
Business Planning and Strategy and Business Performance Monitoring:
Play key role in Country and Region Strategy development and other long-term projects.
Co-lead annual planning process, orchestrating cross-functional collaboration between marketing, commercial, finance, and external partners to build winning, insights-led brand business strategies, as well as develop and measure the KPIs.
Lead in shopper knowledge and category management; co-lead/contribute to category management/redesign projects with Brand and Commercial teams, including third-party distributor partners.
Help establish a strong culture of measurement and evaluation of marketing activities.
Lead consumer metrics reporting for Brand Tracker updates, and Quarterly Business reviews.
Africa Insights Leadership and LUCRA/Global Insights Team Contribution:
Lead the local/regional Insights project initiatives ensuring (i) disciplined target setting and tracking of execution and (ii) development of team knowledge and capabilities.
Under the guidance of the EI Insights Manager, connect with the wider Insights team (Region, Global) to seek out best practices and apply within the Africa business.
Represent Africa within the B-F Global Insights community.
Manage relationships and contracts with local research agencies and panel providers. Ensure rigid discipline of research budget usage.
Special projects as needed to generate insights-led direction for a variety of opportunities including RTM evaluation, market/portfolio prioritization, and brand-building effectiveness
Building insights capabilities within Africa team:
With guidance from EI Insights Manager and Director, establish culture and necessary projects/processes among Marketing & Sales organization, as well as within external partners like Distributors and Communications Agencies aimed at holistic consumer/shopper understanding.
Build awareness and confidence in usage and interpretation of existing data and tools within Marketing & Sales (including IWSR, Retail audit data, Sell-out, etc.)
Closely collaborate with Finance analytics to connect the dots and gather relevant insights for pricing strategy and RGM.
Keep abreast of market research industry developments to gather data and insights, and test & learn new approaches as relevant.
What You Bring to the Table:
Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience in Marketing, Market Research
Experience on client side or agency experience (pref: FMCG/ Beverage/ Tobacco)
Strong Business and Trade environment acumen
Shopper understanding, working with Retail Market Sales Data
Excellent quantitative research skills and understanding of/exposure to qualitative research
Fluent Business English proficiency - advanced written and oral communication in English
Well versed in the digital world
Well versed in market research approaches (ex:U&A studies, brand tracking, retail data analysis and concept testing)
Proficient with Nielsen, Google Suite, Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Ability to synthesize different streams of information into precise, relevant, clear hypotheses.
