Scope:

Professional Specialist with responsibility for quality and environmental programs reporting to the Quality Control and Compliance Manager at the Canadian Mist Distillery located in Collingwood, Ontario. Coordinate all Quality and Environmental activities for the Canadian Mist Distillery. Responsible for supporting the Quality and Environmental capabilities for the production of approximately 6.5 million O.P.G.’s annually and annual sales volumes of approximately $20 million

Job Summary:

Leads the activities of the Quality Control Department which includes analysis of Production processes – raw materials, fermentation, distillation and by-product recovery. Additionally, provides analysis of Warehousing operations – new whisky entry, blending components, finished products and sensory approvals.

Communicates accurate and timely results of QC analyses to appropriate personnel.

The QC Specialist communicates with and responds to requests received from the corporate Quality Assurance and Sensory departments.

The Quality Control Specialist is a technical resource to provide project and troubleshooting assistance for both Production and Warehousing operations.

The QC Specialist has primary responsibility for inventory liquidation selection in accordance with Customer requirements.

Job Responsibilities:

Responsible for implementing the site Quality Control system consistent with Corporate Standards. This includes all operational aspects of the Quality Control Laboratory.

Operate, calibrate and maintain all Quality Control instrumentation.

This includes: HPLC, GC, density meters, alcolyzer, various vapour monitors, spectrophotometer, turbidity meter, pH , refractometer

Collaborate with corporate Quality Assurance to ensure that lab procedures are approved and maintained, analytical performance meets the required specifications and that analytical results are recorded and reported accurately.

Participate in the Housekeeping and Sanitation Program. Supervise the Pest Control Program.

Participate in the TPM Program by supporting Pillar activities and being a member of Improvement Teams.

Preferred Experience & Education:

  • Education: University (Bachelors or Equivalent); Engineering, Chemistry or Science Discipline

  • Experience: Engineering Degree, Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or another Science discipline, plus 5 years of experience in production quality control. A combination of education and experience will be considered.

  • Experience in the food and beverage industry.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills – ability to effectively communicate technical and analytical results to all levels of employees.

  • Strong interpersonal skills – ability to collaborate effectively with all employees.

  • Thorough knowledge of quality systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and projects.
