Brown-Forman European Business Development Manager – Scotch whisky in Edinburgh, United Kingdom

Job Description:

Location: Europe in Edinburgh or London, with regular visits to BF offices and travel, including some evenings/weekends

Role Scope:

The European Business Development Manager is responsible for providing global business development support to Brown-Forman teams across Europe, in a way which helps local markets develop capability in Scotch whisky business management and accelerate Scotch portfolio growth at local level. The role also supports GTR teams across Europe, as Brown-Forman opens up this major channel opportunity for its Scotch whisky portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support ongoing business integration of the Scotch portfolio, working with Brown-Forman market teams and the wider Global team

  • Work with the wider Global team and whisky maker to plan the NPD and the annual limited release and single cask programmes. Support internal sell-in of NPD, limited releases and single cask programmes, liaising closely with the Global brand and finance team, whisky maker and Operations, to agree quantities, timings, allocations and pricing

  • Working with the Director of Global Business Development, wider Global brand team and local markets, plan and manage Europe product allocations, communicating them in a timely manner

  • Act as a regional ambassadorial resource for Europe, in addition to the Global Brand Ambassador and local brand ambassadors, to support key whisky fairs/tastings/events, host high profile masterclasses and help host key customers/distributors at the distillery Home Places in Scotland

  • Provide whisky education and training to Brown-Forman teams, in a way which creates deep understanding of B-F’s new Scotch brands, arming local commercial teams with the capability to effectively sell, promote and accelerate growth of the Scotch portfolio in their market/s

  • Support local Brown-Forman teams with key customer/distributor sell-in of B-F’s Scotch brands, helping open up new markets, channels and listings

  • Working with the Director of Global Business Development, regionally coordinate visits by the Global Brand Ambassador to European markets

  • Proactively stay informed of competitive activity, business dynamics and market conditions in the Europe region, feeding in opportunities/issues/ideas to global and local teams, which help refine global and local strategies and unlock new business growth opportunities

  • Ensure all training, education and messaging is consistent and in line with the global positionings of B-F’s Scotch brands

  • Support Europe teams in annual brand business planning and support Global team at Quarterly performance reviews in understanding dynamics of business performance within the Europe region

Necessary requirements

  • 3-5 years professional experience

  • Luxury spirits or wine experience, ideally single malt Scotch whisky

  • Business development experience

  • P&L understanding

  • Pricing management

  • Sales analysis

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Microsoft Office skills, including Excel and Powerpoint

  • Ability and willingness to travel in Europe, some weekends included

Preferred requirements:

  • Single malt whisky commercial experience

  • Management of limited release programme and allocations

  • Ambassadorial experience

  • Multi-market commercial experience

  • Multi-brand portfolio management

  • One or more European languages
