Reports To: VP, General Manager - Mexico and SVP Director of Global Government Relations

Scope:

The CA Director’s core responsibility is to oversee the corporate affairs, public policy and regulatory affairs strategy primarily for Mexico but also will be called upon to help in other Latin American countries. Additionally, the CA Director will also oversee the Corporate/Social Responsibility strategy and activities for Mexico, with a focus on responsible consumption initiatives.

This is a highly visible role, with key elements of representation of the company with key legislators and regulators as well as industry peers and large trade associations. To fulfill the role successfully, the CA Director must be equally adept working with senior executives and junior personnel alike, be comfortable working in, and have an ability to lead and inspire, diverse and cross-functional teams.

Reflective of the corporate, commercial and strategic nature of this position, the CA Director will be an integral member of the Mexican leadership team. More broadly, the CA will partner with the Mexico leadership team to drive the overall business. A high level of commercial acumen, creativity and proactive partnership is required.

While the majority of day-to-day matters shall be Mexico focused, the CA will also be required to advise the global head of Government Affairs on matters of particular importance and sensitivity.

Responsibilities:

Regarded by business colleagues as the first point of contact for all regional matters related to corporate affairs, marketing and distribution, the CA must be an excellent ‘generalist’, retaining a high-level, uncommonly broad range of expertise, and the ability to swiftly adapt to, adopt and deliver against any state, federal and local matters arising. In particular, the CA will be responsible to advise in the following areas:

  • Corporate Affairs, Government Relations, Public Policy and Regulatory Affairs.

  • The CA is responsible for representing, communicating, and positioning Brown-Forman’s public affairs policies and strategies with both external and internal audiences. External audiences include but are not limited to industry associations, industry peers, business partners, and government representatives.

  • The CA shall proactively undertake complementary external activity, in order to represent the company on relevant industry groups relevant to their work.

  • The CA shall advise and train at all levels throughout the region in order to manage corporate risk.

  • Proactively manage corporate affairs and government relations risk with other colleagues as appropriate.

  • Specific to Mexico’s Industry Trade Association’s (CYVIL) external affairs agenda, the 3 key areas of focus are: taxation, advertising regulation, and illegal alcohol reduction. Also will represent Brown Forman on (FISAC) which is an industry association responsible to promote responsible alcohol consumption.

Must Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 10+ years of experience

  • Proven track-record experience in the following areas:

  • Federal and or State government background and strong understanding of the workings of the legislative process in Mexico as well as regulatory and trade practices in North America.

  • Extensive trade association management experience to adequately represent the company and be highly influential within Tequila Regulatory Council “CRT”, Civyl/FISAC, Abrabe (in Brazil), ConMexico, Tequila Chamber and Chamber of commerce amongst other groups.

  • Advertising and product regulatory environment

  • Taxation experience or background is highly preferred

  • Fully bi-lingual Spanish/English required, and Portuguese conversational-ability preferred

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to operate effectively in a collaborative matrix

  • Demonstrated ability to manage through influence with internal and external partners.

  • Ability and willingness to travel, including some weekends

Preferred Requirements:

  • Fluent in Portuguese

  • Legal background

  • PR and Corporate Responsibility experience

  • Spirits/ Bev Alc industry experience.
