Brown-Forman Legal Manager in Guadalajara, Mexico

Meaningful Work From Day One

The Legal Production manager will provide legal counsel and legal support to the business to ensure all production activities, contracts, and agreements are compliant and meet the legal requirements for the purpose of production, manufacturing, import and export alcoholic beverages in Mexico. This position will proactively manage and advise the business on any risks or local regulation requirements for all production activities.

W hat You Will Experience

  • Serve as the primary legal advisor for the Production team, providing legal counsel for the execution of all Production agreements. This legal counsel includes, but is not limited to service agreements, lease agreements, commercial agreements with different kinds of vendors, purchasing agreements, and various other agreements as necessary for Production matters.

  • Manage the coordination of external counsel for legal agricultural matters, labor, penal and special issues, including internal and external audits.

  • Legally represent Brown-Forman for external affairs, relations with Industry Chambers, Tequila Regulatory Counsel, Regulation Committees and other groups as deemed necessary, by providing legal assessments on pending legislation and changes in the current applicable regulation

  • As an active participant on certain Production teams such as Supply Chain Committee and Agave Price Committee, and in partnership with the General Manager of Casa Herradura, jointly implements the strategies related to supply the raw materials for the tequila and RTD´s production.

  • Provide legal counsel for Brown-Forman’s Production Team in Casa Herradura.

  • Be a strong influencer to help lead the development of legal strategy for Production teams. Serve as a business partner to maintain compliance and ensure continuity of the business.

  • Be a strong partner in developing agreements to ensure an adequate supply of agave.

  • Collaborate with the Production team to ensure compliance with legal regulations controlling Tequila production.

  • Partner with marketing and design to review and develop labels and new products for Brown-Forman’s tequila portfolio.

  • Lead and build alliances with internal Brown-Forman teams (Supply Chain, Environmental, Quality, Field, Home Place, Human Resources, and Unions) in Mexico.

  • Work closely with the Commercial Legal Manager to ensure optimum efficiency of the Mexico Legal team. Including, but not limited to, coordination on joint projects, management of legal staff, and serve as a back-up for each other, as well as other project work.

  • Manage the budget efficiently for outside legal fees with the Commercial Legal Manager.

  • Partner with the Commercial Legal Manager to build, develop, coach and manage a high performing legal team.

What Exactly Are We Looking For?

  • Law Degree (Juris Doctorate or Equivalent); Legal professional degree specialization in Corporate and Contracts Law.

  • 6-8 years experience as a corporate lawyer.

  • Strong business management background coupled with functional experience in management practices.

  • A robust understanding of business needs and the balance between legal requirements and business strategies.

  • Strong demonstrated networking skills and the ability to build rapport with key decision makers internally and externally.

  • Strong customer relations skills.

  • Efficient time management skills.

  • Strong people management, training, coaching and performance management skills.

  • Fluent/Superior English skills, both spoken and written.
