Brown-Forman Tax Manager in Guadalajara, Mexico

POSITION SUMMARY The Tax Manager is responsible of ensuring the statutory tax compliance and U.S. GAAP and statutory tax related accounting entries of 5 Mexican legal entities, in an accurate and timely manner. The Tax Manager will coordinate tax planning projects with the Global Tax team and external advisory firms. The position is in charge of ensuring that corporate reports are prepared in accordance to Corporate guidelines.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review and approve the U.S. GAAP and statutory calculations for taxable income, current tax and deferred tax as well as the annual tax true-up adjustment.

  • Coordinate and supervise the submission of the various tax reporting files that are submitted to corporate (quarter and annual), including quarterly forecasts of U.S. GAAP income before taxes and tax expense.

  • Supervise the monthly and annual direct and indirect tax filings and ensure compliance with Mexican tax laws and regulations.

  • Coordinate and approve the annual tax information filings, in accordance with tax requirements.

  • Oversee the process for securing the data requested by transfer pricing documentation service providers to meet Mexico transfer pricing documentation requirements; review the draft reports prepared by the service providers and provide comments to ensure reports are completed timely and efficiently.

  • Review intercompany transactions, including relevant transfer pricing strategies and necessary documentation.

  • Proactively develop and propose tax strategies to help improve/reduce BFM´s tax load by working with Global Tax teams, external advisory and the different chambers such as Civyl, CRT, etc.).

  • Provide guidance and support to the organization regarding tax guidelines.

  • Coordinate and supervise information submitted to internal and external auditors, as well as different Mexican authorities.

  • Prepare information to respond to tax authority requests; prepare information for tax audits and collaborate on reviews to guarantee a successful outcome. Communicate status to the different stakeholders.

  • Coordinate and approve the completion of the quarterly tax audit questionnaire submission to corporate and provide additional updates to the Director of Tax Audits at corporate as necessary.

  • Develop and motivate team members to reach personal, department and Company goals.

  • Coordinate the request of tax tags (marbete fiscal) by working with the Production Planning and Import/Export teams to ensure an accurate stock is available in alignment with forecasted needs.

  • Develop and maintain a professional network with companies in the industry to strengthen BFM´s presence with authorities.

  • Maintain a network with consultants and regulating bodies to ensure BFM is updated on changes in laws and regulations.

  • Analyze variances vs forecast and budget.

  • Actively participate in different forums within the industry (AmCham, Civyl, FISAC, CRT, etc.) to understand potential tax reforms, the impacts to BFM´s tax obligations and proactively defend the company´s interests.

  • Provide guidance and support to CCSA Accounting Analyst on topics related to tax compliance in countries such as Colombia, Argentina, etc.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in accounting (Mexican equivalent to Bachelor Degree)

  • Preferably additional post degree in tax regulation and/or tax strategy

  • 3 years or more in similar position in a corporate tax department as well as public accounting experience

  • Experience managing people

  • Experience in multi-national organizations with broad global presence

  • Proficient in English

  • Preferably knowledgeable in SAP or similar ERP

  • Technical knowledge in income tax, VAT, excise taxes, social security, state and municipal taxes

  • Experience in USGAAP and MEXGAAP
