Job Description:

Position Title: Market Manager, Emerging Brands

Reporting Relationships:

Reports to: State or Territory Manager, matrix into Emerging Brands Regional Manager

Internally Partners With: Commercial Manager, Territory Portfolio Manager, Field Marketing Managers, Territory Finance Manager, Local Brown-Forman On/Off teams, and Customer Account Managers

Externally Partners With: Greenhouse Brand Champions, Brand Ambassadors, Distributor Key Supplier Business Managers, Distributor Metro or Craft Channel Division Manager, and any relevant Metro or Craft Channel Sales Representatives


Trade Development – 20%

• Develops rapport and personally calls on targeted on-premise & off-premise accounts

• “Hand Sells” assigned portfolio of brands to targeted gatekeepers (retailers, bar owners/managers, and bartenders)

• Conducts wait staff training and coordinates brand education seminars in target accounts to create advocacy for B-F brands

• Secures B-F priority brand visibility, menus, and features in targeted accounts

Market Planning & Evaluation – 20%

• Working with Emerging Brands Regional Manager, Commercial Manager, TPM, and FMM’s develops market plan for target accounts

• Works with distributor KSBM to set B-F SEE goals and tracking for any dedicated distributor Metro or Craft Division

• Serves as local “thought leader” for B-F Emerging Brands initiatives in market

• Reviews Metro or Craft Division performance monthly with respective distributor Division Manager and KSBM

• Monitors assigned B-F portfolio brand performance with the expectation of exceeding market segment trends

• Establishes remedial plans as needed

• Participates in on-going planning meetings with internal and external stakeholders as required

• Manages and maintains budget

Training & Coaching – 40%

• Responsible for training the distributor Metro or Craft team on assigned B-F brands and their competition

• Brand responsibility includes: Old Forester, Coopers’ Craft, Herradura, Ben Riach, Glendronach, Glenglassaugh, and Slane

• Responsible for working in market with distributor Metro or Craft team a minimum of two days per week

• Completes ride-with contact report and works with distributor Division Manager on continuous improvement

• Serves as B-F commercial team segment expert and coordinates training activities across the local B-F team

Public Relations & Events – 20%

• Leads team to ensure appropriate targeting and coordination of BF presence at various consumer and trade wine and spirit events

• Coordinates event execution with FMM’s, brand champions/ambassadors, and distributor team

• Works with Field Marketing and Greenhouse to identify B-F Emerging Brands Public Relations opportunities

• Plans and coordinates winery and distillery representative market visits

• Facilitates B-F Home Place visits for market customers and guests

• Shares best practices across the division and with fellow B-F Emerging Brands Managers

Must Requirements:

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree plus 3+ years industry sales experience, or equivalent education/experience combination.

• Demonstrated ability to build relationships and maintain effective working relationships with distributors, accounts, and all internal stakeholders

• Demonstrated knowledge of three-tier distribution system

• Team player: Able to put the needs of the overall Brown-Forman business above the specific needs of the territory or team. Seeks out opportunities to collaborate with leaders in other channels and territories. Keeps relevant parties informed of activity and seeks similar behavior from the area team

• Literate with word processing programs (such as Word), spreadsheet programs (such as Excel), and presentation programs (such as PowerPoint)

• Must have valid state driver’s license

• Physical ability to lift 60 pounds

Preferred Requirements:

• Experience working with scotch or a super-premium portfolio
