Brown-Forman Analyst - Corporate Development in Louisville, Kentucky

Brown-Forman’s Corporate Development team is responsible for helping shape

Brown-Forman’s strategic direction by identifying industry trends, maintaining

relationships with relevant external partners, as well as sourcing, negotiating,

structuring, and executing strategic acquisitions and investments worldwide. The Corporate Development team partners with Corporate Strategy, as well as regional commercial and brand leaders throughout the world to evaluate the constantly evolving landscape and execute our strategy. The Analyst, Corporate Development will spend time reviewing, analyzing and valuing selected acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, alliances, and other strategic opportunities that span a broad continuum including companies, brands, route-to-consumer opportunities and production facilities. The Analyst role will help support recommendations that the Corporate Development team will make to internal committees and executives.

What You Can Expect:

The Analyst, Corporate Development reviews, analyzes and values acquisition, divestiture, joint venture, and alliance opportunities in order to support recommendations the team will make to internal committees, executives, and ultimately, the Board of Directors. Presentations, whitepapers and other deliverables include analyses of the historical and projected economic, commercial, marketing, operational (production, sales and route-to-consumer), and financial characteristics of the companies, categories and geographic areas being considered; valuation of the opportunities being considered; review of the opportunities’ strengths, weaknesses and corporate philosophies as they relate to Brown-Forman; assessment of strategic and organizational fit; synergy assessment; projections as to the impact of implementation; and assessment of the value creation of each opportunity. The Analyst, Corporate Development will also participate in a range of strategy initiatives and projects both at

the corporate level and across geographic region and brand teams, providing strong analytic support.

Key elements of the role include:

  • Work collaboratively with all Corporate Development team members while also working directly with the Director of Corporate Strategy and Business Development on select initiatives and operating group members to refine acquisition, divestiture, joint venture, alliance analyses and corporate strategy initiatives.

  • Evaluate, analyze and value selected acquisition, divestiture, joint venture, and alliance opportunities to support recommendations the team will make to internal committees, senior management, and ultimately, the Board of Directors. Presentations, whitepapers and other deliverables include analysis of the historical and projected economic, commercial, marketing, operational, and financial characteristics of the companies, categories and geographic areas being considered; valuation of the companies/brands/opportunities being considered; review of companies’/opportunities’ strengths, weaknesses and corporate philosophies as they relate to Brown-Forman; assessment of strategic and organizational fit; synergy assessment; and projections as to the impact of implementation.

  • Developing presentations, whitepapers, and other support for recommendations

  • Providing the Corporate Development team with economic, competitive, industry and financial evaluations in support of the projects being executed and the longer-term strategic planning process.

  • Developing and maintaining exceptional technical skills in financial modeling and merger and acquisition analyses.

  • Developing and maintaining a sharp awareness of consumer trends and preferences, industry transaction activities, and the financial objectives and performance of companies/opportunities.

  • Participating in certain elements of corporate strategy analyses across a wide range of topics from brand, geographic, and route-to-consumer channel strategies to whitespace and innovation strategies.

  • Developing an excellent understanding of the competitive environment and operational aspects of the global beverage alcohol industry.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Education: College/University (Bachelors or Equivalent); Finance, Accounting or Economics

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A., B.S. or equivalent) with a concentration in Finance, Accounting or Economics

  • Excellent financial, analytical, and communication skills with 0-3 years of direct relevant experience.

  • Superior oral and written communications skills, including the ability to succinctly lead members of the Corporate Development team to fact-based and strategically balanced conclusions.

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision under heavy workloads, and at times with intense time pressures.

  • Ability to thrive in a rigorous, team-oriented and collaborative environment.

  • Excellent quantitative and financial modeling skills reflecting a sound grasp of financial theory.

What Makes You Unique (Preferred Requirements):

  • Successful completion of all or parts of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Program or Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

  • Previous experience in the mergers & acquisitions, corporate finance, and/or strategic

  • planning department of an investment bank, management consulting firm or Fortune 500 Company.
