Brown-Forman Art Director in Louisville, Kentucky
The Art Director is responsible for the creation of effective design, promoting brand integrity and delivering premium product design in the marketplace through solid understanding and execution of design strategy. Working in conjunction with Design Project Managers, responsible for overall assigned brand design workflow.
Under the supervision of the Creative Director, the Art Director leads innovation in design with external and internal resources and agency partners ensuring alignment of strategic brand positioning is maintained throughout design process. Focusing primarily on the BF Design Continuum, the Art Director works at the direction of the Creative Director to coordinate and manage the activities of internal design team members along with external vendors. The Art Director facilitates translation of marketing objectives into workable, scalable and effective brand designs. Collaborating with Design Project Manager, the Art Director interfaces with assigned brand teams, helps brief agency partners, manages timelines and evaluates design.
Under the supervision of the Creative Director, leads the implementation of visual brand messaging process with a focus on building brand equity.
In collaboration with the Creative Director, leads the design and development of new and refined brand identity projects from initial concept and ideation to creative completion.
Provides direction to Senior Designer and Designers for production design projects, secondary packaging, etc.
Engages and builds strong alliances with internal and external design resources and agency partners.
Closely collaborates with Design Project Manager to be the primary interface with assigned brand teams.
Working with the Creative Director and brand team leaders, briefs agency partners, manages timelines and evaluates design.
Develops detailed knowledge of each brands’ business and positioning.
Participates in and designs new and refined brand identity and packaging, from the Project Definition Phase through the Design Development Phases of the packaging development process.
Initiates regular communication with the Creative Director and Director of Project Management and Production Design Manager as to the status and progress of design projects.
Positively interacts with other design team members and collaborates in elevating the overall design work of each project.
Bachelor’s Degree in graphic design, art, industrial design, marketing communications, etc. and 5 to 7 years’ experience
Has collaborated with art directors, other designers, photographers, production artists, and illustrators.
Proven strong influencing and persuasion skills.
Background in strategic brand design, brand identity and demonstrated experience in brand visualization and understanding of brand architecture.
Understands and translates brand team input into creative excellence.
Demonstrates versatility in applying design skills to different assignments, brands and projects.
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of our marketplace (on and off premise), our consumers and our competition.
Detailed knowledge of design principles and up-to-date knowledge of design trends.
Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to “translate” design issues and problems and act as intermediary between brand teams and external agencies.
Ability to prioritize and complete multiple projects within specified deadlines in a fast paced environment.
Strong problem solving and analytical skills. Understands business implications of recommendations and decisions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external personnel of all level and maintain confidentiality of information.
Experience in program development, project planning and management
Ability to maintain flexible work schedule as weekend and extend workdays are necessary.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of design trends. Proficient in all design-related Macintosh software.
Design-related Master’s Degree Consumer package goods experience.
Demonstrated ability in inspiring brand teams to implement creative vision.
Strong background in brand identity project management.
Proven ability to manage creative agency partners.
In-depth consumer and market knowledge.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
