Brown-Forman Associate Chemist - Analytical Services in Louisville, Kentucky
Scope of Position:
Supports BF R&D projects by performing testing/experimentation/product development or process research work assignments. Uses established scientific tools and procedures. Solves routine and standard problems. Takes requests, implements testing, and analyzes and interprets data with supervision.
The primary responsibility of the Associate Chemist is to support BF R&D projects by performing routine laboratory testing using a range of software, techniques and equipment to include handling of pressurized chemicals. The individual will take requests from customers, analyze results using standard procedures and communicate results. Data management responsibilities include accurate recording of test results, data interpretation, reporting and presentation of results. The associate chemist will proactively develop and maintain technical knowledge regarding analytical instrumentation. The individual will provide analytical support to R&D, plants and production areas.
60% - Takes test, experimental, product development or process research requests from supervisor or internal customers. Determines and performs routine testing/experiments and structured work assignments.
15% - Collects, analyzes and interprets data using established methods and issues reports to supervisor or internal customer with minimum supervision.
15% - Leads and coordinates implementation of assigned projects internal to own function with minimal supervision.
10% - Monitors and maintains instruments, troubleshoots product issues using standard procedures. Maintains operating supply inventories.
Required Experience & Education:
Bachelors Degree in Chemistry or Related Scientific Field
1+ years relevant chemistry or related scientific work experience
• Strong computational skills relevant to discipline
• Database experience
• Basic lab knowledge
Preferred Experience & Education:
Experience: • Experience with formulated alcohol products
• Experience with analytical techniques and instrumentation (distillation, titration, pH, spectrophotometry, GC, GC/MS, NIR)
• Experience in whiskey fermentation, distillation, maturation, blending and filtration
• Familiar with TTB regulations and requirements as pertains to beverage alcohol#SM#TSM
