Brown-Forman Associate Scientist - Product Insights in Louisville, Kentucky

Supports BF R&D projects by performing testing/experimentation/product development or process research work assignments. Uses established scientific tools and procedures. Solves routine and standard problems. Takes requests, implements testing, and analyzes and interprets data with supervision.

Basic Function: Takes sensory testing requests from internal customers, such as Product Development, and uses pre-established sensory testing methods to set up panels and conduct analysis under minimal supervision. Analyzes sensory testing results using established methods and issues reports to internal consumers under supervision. Participates in project design for assigned projects to support internal customers. Leads and coordinates testing for assigned projects with supervision and ensures accuracy of reported data following established procedures. Supervises maintenance and general upkeep of sensory samples and laboratory. Manages trained sensory panelists to ensure consistent attendance, performance, and engagement.

Responsibilities:

  • 60% - Takes test, experimental, product development or process research requests from supervisor or internal customers. Determines and performs routine testing/experiments and structured work assignments.

  • 15% - Collects, analyzes and interprets data using established methods and issues reports to supervisor or internal customer with minimum supervision.

  • 15% - Leads and coordinates implementation of assigned projects internal to own function with minimal supervision.

  • 10% - Monitors and maintains instruments, troubleshoots product issues using standard procedures. Maintains operating supply inventories.

Must Requirements (including any physical requirements):

  • B.S. degree in Food Science, Psychology, or related degree

  • 1+ years’ work experience in R&D, sensory, product development, quality or related environment

  • Strong computational and statistical skills

  • Database experience

  • Basic lab knowledge

Preferred Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of beverage alcohol sensory properties

  • Experience with distilled spirits products and properties

  • Strong understanding of and experience with discriminative and quality sensory methodologies

  • Experience with Compusense Software
