Brown-Forman Brown-Forman Distillery Operations - Senior Operations and Engineering Manager in Louisville, Kentucky

Meaningful Work From Day One Responsible for leading the Louisville Bottling Production, Engineering and Maintenance teams to process, bottling and ship high quality, on-time, and cost-efficient products with an annual volume of over 6.5 million flat cases and adhering to the required regulatory, safety, environmental and quality requirements.

Responsible for leading, coordinating and supervising the activities of 8 salaried employees and up to 65 up to bottling employees and up to 27 skilled craft employees

As a member of the Brown-Forman Distillery Operations Leadership Team, this role will set and drive the strategic priorities for a multi-site operation including all continuous improvement activities that contribute to the long-term success of the operations. Responsible for the technical leadership for major capital projects as well as executing maintenance projects $20 million including cost reduction, continuous improvement, regulatory and modernization projects and serve as a liaison to corporate engineering and coordinate work with contractors and consultants. Create, manage, and track all department metrics including managing production, engineering, and maintenance operational budgets. Accountable for driving the daily, weekly, and monthly KPI results for the Production, Engineering and Maintenance teams. Provide production guidance and technical support to appropriate team members to drive toward Operational Excellence. Fosters employee empowerment & collaboration and provides the required resources to support the work teams. Oversee the deployment of standardized work throughout the operation.

Safety/Environmental

Maintain a safe work environment and promote accident prevention by setting expectations and addressing unsafe behaviors. Provide technical leadership and ensure site compliance for all regulatory agencies.

Ensure the proper selection, training, coaching, goal expectations, talent development and performance feedback of all leaders to maximize engagement and performance of the production, engineering, and maintenance employees. Participates as part of the Brown-Forman Distillery Operations Leadership Team to drive plant strategy and culture. Partner with the HR & Finance teams to project required staffing needs including internal and external requirements, coordination of supplemental staffing services, and related payroll-reporting requirements.

Quality

Coordinate partnerships with vendors of on-line products, including a system to identify and report raw material quality problems, including charge-back of related personnel costs to the appropriate parties when problems occur. Work with the team to develop SOPs, centerlines, audit processes. Train employees accordingly. Provide direction and oversight for the installation, preventative and corrective measures taken in adherence with the Planned Maintenance and Early Equipment Management pillars. Lead structural improvement processes to ensure housekeeping and sanitation.

Productivity

Lead operations management in developing and establishing performance standards and SOPs in conjunction with new equipment installations or process changes. Support the growth and development of team members through developing, implementing and evaluating job specific skills training for employees coordinating efforts with natural work teams. Manage and develop monthly reporting cycle KPI decks and associated information. Lead continued integration and improvements of the CMMS system to optimize efficiency and reliability, leveraging the Maintenance Coordinator for day-to-day administrative oversight. Lead and execute engineering projects for the site. Stays current on technologies and engineering trends to recommend/incorporate as appropriate. Ensure process stability through following standardized work. Familiar with HACCP and Food Certification requirements. Provides direction to the team and incorporates standards into daily routines.

Continuous Improvement

Accountable for developing and establishing operations, engineering, and maintenance standards. Support team in operational problem resolution, including optimization, eliminating limitations, and bench-marking activities. Develops and implements Line Improvement Strategies through the Bottling Production team to ensure systems & processes continue to improve over time. Identify gap opening, closing, and sustaining improvement opportunities to obtain cost and performance related targets. Continuously identify and work to reduce waste in the area for both short term and long-term improvement initiatives. In-depth advanced knowledge of formal TPM programs including leadership, teaching and integration of TPM methodologies into daily routines. Accountable for strategy, design and implementation of control systems and manufacturing information systems. Submit Capital Appropriations Requests, including vendor sourcing and account responsibility.

Cost Containment

Manage labor/overhead budget to optimize resources and cost-efficiency. Lead the creation of capital and maintenance operational budgets. Identify, implement, and execute cost-savings initiatives. Leverage resources effectively to meet plant KPIs per budget standards.

We Are Looking For People Who

Have a Bachelor' Degree in Engineering and demonstrated experience leading Operations, Engineering and Maintenance teams in a Manufacturing Environment preferably beverage/food/related environment including; goal setting, establishing performance standards, change management and driving employee engagement, accountability and enablement.

5-10 years Engineering, Maintenance or related Operations Experience with at least 3 years at the Manager or Senior Manager level.

Experience with Manufacturing Improvement Methodologies. i.e., Zero Loss culture, Continuous Improvement, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing.

Project management experience including design, development and implementation.

Proactive and strategic mindset with the ability to innovate and execute automation strategies.

Strong interpersonal skills with ability to influence, develop, and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of the workforce including internal and external partners.

Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and the ability to prepare and present finished reports and project updates using G-Suite or other computer applications.

Ability to work additional hours and/or shifts to meet departmental goals, including weekends as needed.

What You Can Add To The Team

Education: Master’s Degree (M.A., MBA or Equivalent);

Experience: 10-years engineering leadership experience, Capital Project Management, World Class Maintenance Practices.

Demonstrated experience in consumer packaging

TPM/CI methodology and/or lean methods experience

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Experience in data gathering/analysis, identifying trends/gaps, building action plans, driving execution, and sustaining via routine management

Ability to facilitate projects amongst diverse teams and proven ability to gain results. Solid interpersonal skills and team orientation
