Brown-Forman Commercial Studio Photo Assistant (Temporary) in Louisville, Kentucky

This is a temporary position that is approved through April 2019.

The Commercial Studio Photo Assistant provides studio and digital photo production support to the senior staff photographer – to fulfill request from social and e-premise channels. Support includes photographing and retouching work for our brands and follow Brown-Forman standards for photography. Responsible for lighting, setup, props, photographing and retouching following existing workflow, and standards of digital photography. Works with senior staff photographer, internal partners and external agencies and/or vendor partners as required.

The commercial studio photo assistant will assist the senior photographer in the commercial studio – with the creation of images for e-premise/e-commerce and social media. Responsible for end-to-end process of creating assets in photo studio – from photographing -- retouching -- accurately naming assets created in studio, while ensuring that all material complies with guidelines and policies.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate expert capabilities in studio and on-location within the various business channels: eCommerce, POS, social media/lifestyle, drink photography, etc.

  • Responsible for lighting and shooting digital photography for a wide range of products (bottles, POS, drink) and social media/lifestyle images to inspire and engage our consumers.

  • Proven work experience in commercial studio photography

  • Familiar with e-premise/e-commerce and commercial photography

  • Responsible for maintaining the workflow that insures completing the daily production requirements, and following existing protocols for product staging prop styling, and photography sets.

  • Communicate effectively and efficiently in both written and verbal form.

  • Production of digital images for social campaigns and e-commerce - aligned with business goals, within established standards, quality and aesthetics

  • Upholds governance policies to ensure standardized naming conventions.

  • Communicates with senior photographer, internal and external teams to ensure efficient management of assets through the photo production cycle.

  • Fulfills photo and retouching requests from external and internal partners – as well as working with brand teams and internal design teams to ensure brand consistency

  • Assist with basic studio needs of an in-house corporate commercial photography studio

  • Assist in planning and setup of lifestyle photography shoots in studio and on location (props, photography equipment, communication with external vendors needed for shoot)

  • Partner with in-house photographer for daily work flow and project priorities

  • Retouching product photography on a regular basis for e-commerce and Marketing needs

  • Basic product photography as needed for e-commerce or marketing

  • Follow proper file naming protocol and organize files on internal server/web based digital asset management site

  • Ensure consistency between files per brand standards

  • Responsible for maintaining studio & work station organization, including clean up of sets, props and items delivered to studio

  • Comply with safety standards and regulation

  • Work flexible schedule based on the needs of the business

  • Other duties as assigned

Must Requirements:

  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Commercial Photography or Graphic Design with Photography Emphasis with 3-4 + years experience in a professional photo studio or high-volume e-commerce production studio or equivalent experience

  • Proficient in Photoshop, Capture One, Lightroom, and functional understanding of Illustrator and photo and design industry standard software is required

  • Understanding of color theory, color matching and color correction in RGB color space

  • Familiarity with studio lighting equipment and experience with DSLR camera, Nikon equipment used in studio. Utilize DSLR camera, take multiple photos, upload, and touch up photos to bring out quality and value of items

  • Ability to multitask in a high-volume environment.

  • Ability to work on multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.

  • Must be able to respond to urgent requests in a positive and professional manner

  • Must be self-motivated, organized and self-managed.

  • Strong interest in digital photography and eager to learn the business

  • Willingness to accept direction to improve quality and performance.

  • Strong communication skills, proactive, self-motivated, positive attitude

  • Ability to collaborate with a team as well as work independently managing several dead-line driven projects simultaneously – including receiving creative direction from senior photographer, brand, and creative teams and make corrections when necessary

  • Some lifting may be involved.

  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite applications with expert proficiency in Photoshop

  • Retouch/edit digital images according to set guidelines

  • Strong color correction skills needed to ensure color consistency across all brand images

  • Knowledge of digital file formats.

  • High level of computer competency on Mac and Windows platforms.

  • Written and verbal communication skills.

  • Attention to detail, organization, and follow-up skills.

  • Be proactive about helping co-workers

Preferred Requirements:

  • Associates degree in Commercial Photography or Graphic Design with Photography emphasis with 3-4 + years experience in a professional photo studio or high-volume e-commerce production studio or equivalent experience

  • Knowledge of studio photography lighting kit, tri-pod stands and other photo studio equipment. Knowledge of DSLR camera

  • Expert knowledge of Adobe Photoshop

  • Experience working in small collaborative teams.
