Brown-Forman Director Corporate Development in Louisville, Kentucky
Sources, reviews, analyzes and develops recommendations on – acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, alliances, and other strategic opportunities – that span a broad continuum including companies, brands, route-to-consumer opportunities and production facilities – for senior management, the Executive Leadership Team and the Board of Directors. In addition, participates, and in some cases leads, a range of strategy initiatives and projects both at the corporate level and across regional and brand teams providing strategic thought, strong analytic support and a balanced perspective. This role balances the ability to create and continuously refine complex operational and valuation based financial models with creating, reviewing and presenting whitepapers and presentations to internal capital deployment and strategy committees, members of our Executive Leadership Team and Board of Directors. Moreover, this role is a primary point of contact with key external stakeholders such as counterparts and leadership at other companies, potential joint venture and alliance partners and investment banking and consulting advisors.
Source, evaluate, analyze, review and develop recommendations on acquisition, divestiture, joint venture, and alliance opportunities in order to present and make balanced recommendations to internal committees, the Executive Leadership Team, and ultimately, the Board of Directors. Presentations, whitepapers and other deliverables include analyses of the historical and projected economic, commercial, marketing, operational (production, sales and route-to-consumer), and financial characteristics of the companies, categories and geographic areas being considered; valuation of the companies/brands/opportunities being considered; review of companies’/opportunities’ strengths, weaknesses and corporate philosophies as they relate to Brown-Forman; assessment of strategic and organizational fit; synergy assessment; projections as to the impact of implementation; and assessment of the value creation of each opportunity.
Key elements of the role include:
Work directly with the Head of Corporate Strategy and Business Development while working closely with members of the Executive Leadership Team and operating group members to refine acquisition, divestiture, joint venture, alliance analyses and corporate strategy initiatives.
Developing, reviewing and presenting presentations, whitepapers and other support for recommendations to senior management, the Executive Leadership Team and the Board of Directors.
Providing our Executive Leadership Team with economic, competitive, industry and financial evaluations in support of all projects being executed and the longer-term and continuous strategic planning process.
Coaching and developing team members in all aspects of financial modeling while maintaining exceptional technical skills in financial modeling, valuation, merger and acquisition analyses, and value creation methodologies.
Developing and maintaining a sharp awareness of consumer trends and preferences, industry transaction activities, and the financial objectives and performance of peer companies in support of potential opportunities and strategic insights.
Developing an excellent understanding of the competitive environment and operational aspects of the global beverage alcohol industry and other adjacent industries as necessary given the rapidly evolving competitive landscape.
Helping to lead corporate strategy analyses across a wide range of topics from brand, geographic and route-to-consumer channel strategies to whitespace and innovation strategies.
Manage and coach all members of the Corporate Development and Strategy team who either report directly to the Director, Corporate Development or to the Manager, Corporate Development.
Manage and maintain dialogue with external stakeholders such as founders of companies and/or brands of interest, partners at other global beverage alcohol companies and other strategic alliance partners, along with maintaining relationships with investment banks and strategic consulting firms.
Masters Degree (M.A., MBA or Equivalent) with a concentration in Finance and demonstrated excellent financial, analytical, and communication skills with 8+ years of direct relevant experience
Previous experience with the merger/acquisitions, corporate finance, strategic planning department of a global investment bank and/or Corporate M&A experience in a Fortune 500 Company.
Superior oral and written communication skills, including the ability to succinctly lead members of the Executive Leadership Team and Board of Directors to fact-based and strategically balanced conclusions.
Ability to work with minimum supervision under heavy workloads, and at times with intense time pressures.
Ability to thrive in a rigorous, team-oriented environment.
Excellent quantitative and technical modeling skills reflecting sound grasp of financial theory.
Ability to create, review and present presentations and white papers to executives and a public company Board.
Successful completion of all or parts of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Program
