Brown-Forman Plant Production Leader - Quality Control in Louisville, Kentucky
Under the leadership of the Quality Manager and Operations Manager, supervises in-process quality of raw materials, fermentation, distillations and by-products recovery. Indirectly supervises the activities of 12 Distillery Operators on daily activities required to produce quality distillate for maturation. Acts as a liaison between QC and Operations, to ensure Operations has adequate support to meeting production schedule and efficiency targets.
Responsible for directing the qualitative analysis of raw materials, intermediates, and new whiskey samples collected throughout the distillation process. Has ultimate authority regarding chemical analysis, adjustment, and approval for grains, fermentation, distillate and by-products.
Supports the activities of Brown-Forman Distillery Quality Control Department; including, but not limited to grain and new whiskey quality control, monitoring new whiskey sensory panel, and site quality systems and housekeeping and sanitation. Works with internal partners, such as B-F Quality Assurance; Environmental, Health and Safety; and R&D as needed. Oversees data trends on raw materials and finished products; writing variances, request specification adjustments, or formula/procedure changes as needed. Partners with Operations to ensure the site has adequate operational coverage. Serves as B-F Distillery representative on project teams as required, coordinating new product and material test runs and ensuring smooth introduction of new products. Partner with Operations to help design efficient and effective changes to improve site performance.
Partners with Operations to troubleshoot quality concerns, holding vendors accountable and documenting production impact. Conducts monthly HK&S and quality systems audits, making suggestions for improvement when necessary.
Partners with Operations to act as a back-up for Distillery Operations Manager as needed. Promotes QC department success, favorable business results, and a sound production support plans. Maintains communication with BFDO QC team and Operation members, sharing information and training documents as needed.
Supports Continuous Improvement efforts and TPM implementation at BF Distillery and BF Warehouse, as an active Pillar member and team leader.
Able to work a flexible work schedule, 7 Day per week coverage and split/move shifts to support BFD Operations.
Required Experience & Education:
Bachelors Degree Microbiology, Biology or Related Science or Engineering degree.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ experience in distilling, beverage alcohol, food industry or related industry. Knowledge of microbiological analytical methods and laboratory procedures, including general laboratory equipment maintenance. Experience with managing a sensory panel and statistical analysis of results. Experience leading and developing others.
