Brown-Forman Senior Accountant NAR in Louisville, Kentucky

Job Description:

Scope of Position & Responsibilities:

The Senior Accountant supports the Americas Controller and is responsible for a wide range of accounting and financial analysis for NAR (North America Region). This position will work with NAR Finance divisions and other cross functional groups within the organization. This position will lead initiatives to identify accounting, process or SOX control issues within NAR divisions; will have an opportunity to recommend process re-engineering to drive accuracy and efficiency; and will work with the NAR Controller to strategize accounting and control advice to the region’s finance team and lead resolutions within NAR divisions.

Areas of responsibilities:


  • Prepare the NAR Full Accrual entry (i.e. estimate of brand expense) and financial analysis

  • Review and post discount accrual entries prepared by Division’s finance team

  • Work with Division’s finance team to manage 77-17 funds and Distributor Investment funds agreements, payments, reconciliations and accounting

  • Manage POS accounting and reconciliations; identify and resolve SAP and Image seller’s systems’ interface issues

  • Calculate US Broker’s commissions and bonus payments and accruals

  • Calculate brand royalty and license fee payments and accruals

  • Manage miscellaneous journal entries e.g. coupon and rebates; NAR sales bonus accrual; marketing research, consultants or agencies expenses accruals, payments and prepaid amortization

  • Ensure accuracy and documentation of reclass entries and year-end accruals requested by region’s finance team

  • Manage year-end accounting close process for NAR divisions

  • Prepare Balance Sheet Accounts Reconciliations

  • Ensure SOX Control compliance

Analytics and Advisory:

  • Work with NAR Finance to understand significant Full Accrual adjustments

  • Analyze discount accruals for accuracy and work with NAR divisions to resolve identified issues

  • Review contracts prior to execution (e.g., consultants, licenses, commissions) and determine accounting treatment and provide business advice

  • Analyze and quantify the expenses under Accounting Conventions

  • Assist with month-end financial analysis review

Assist/Lead Special Projects and Initiatives:

  • Analyze and implement US GAAP requirements across all NAR divisions e.g. change in GAAP for revenue recognition, expense classification changes/reviews, etc.

  • NAR Roadshows for training sales team

  • Development and implementation of internal controls guidelines e.g. Control Checklist for finance team

  • Development and implementation of new Accounting Policies e.g. Establishing prepaid threshold limit


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business administration with more than 5 years of accounting or finance experience

  • CPA or working towards a CPA

  • SAP knowledge is preferred

  • Ability to work efficiently on Excel and Power Point

  • A high level of energy and drive, strong work ethic

  • Excellent communication skills, confident, a persuader

  • A team player who demonstrates a partnering attitude and capability

  • Demonstrated experience working with, and across multiple teams
