Brown-Forman Senior SAP Project Manager in Louisville, Kentucky

Purpose: This position has primary responsibility for planning, managing and executing projects for Brown-Forman, ranging from medium to large-scale IT projects of various levels of scope, complexity, duration and project team size. Brown-Forman has a vast spectrum of SAP initiatives that will help transform the company. We are frequently executing multiple simultaneous projects that need experienced Project Management leadership. These range from enhancements and upgrades to full-scale implementations. We are also plotting our course to S/4Hana in the near future and need your expertise to help us successfully guide the project from planning to completion. This role will manage project teams consisting of 10-50+ business analysts, technology engineers, external consultants, and/or business personnel. Develops, oversees and manages project budgets. Coaches and mentors less experienced project managers on projects.

Manage IT Initiatives

  • Leads the delivery of medium to large initiatives (enterprise- wide, unit-specific and tactical operational projects).

  • Ensures alignment of project stakeholders via superb communications, influencing, and relationship building.

  • Oversees all project activities and overall delivery.

  • Simultaneously leads multiple projects, coordinating resources across IT and within the business operating units.

  • Partners with the respective Business Leaders and associated IT Managers/Directors to ensure a quality delivery of project deliverables.

  • Ensures project activities are aligned to deliver the identified technology strategies, and business goals / objectives, while meeting quality, scheduling, budget, and IT standards requirements.

  • Through project deployment, fosters and guides full adoption of tools, services and common business processes, and cultivates super-users to strengthen solution ownership and self-sufficiency.

  • Provides leadership in ensuring consistent use of the project methodology.

  • Drives the importance of Testing / QA practices / Security, as well as IT and business cross-training across all project initiatives.

  • Ensures internal controls and Brown Forman’s compliance requirements are consistently practiced and maintained.

  • Working in conjunction with the IT Directors and respective management team members, provides accurate project timelines and cost estimates for the analysis, construction, testing and implementation phases of projects. Ensures project activities and resources are superbly allocated to align with the priorities established by business.

  • Active participation with the IT and Business Management Teams to develop and measure project success criteria and return on investment.

  • Champions promoting improved inter-departmental relationships through effective project communications and practices.

  • Advocate for change management with an empathy for relationships and positions.

People Development

  • Develops technical and business skills of self, and assists with development of project assigned staff members and other project managers / leads, to achieve increased productivity and quality of Brown Forman’s solutions and people resources.


  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Computer Science or related field;

  • Preferred Education: Master’s Degree in Business Administration, or related field.


  • 8 - 10 years progressive experience in leading the deployment of medium to large scale SAP and other IT initiatives

  • Technical skills for understanding the development, configuration, implementation and support of business solution

  • Must have experience in integrating SAP with non-SAP systems using middleware/EDI/API

  • Must have good understanding of managing project financials

  • Must have solid understanding of technical application and data architecture

  • Must demonstrate change leadership skills: ability to effectively manage communication, negotiate successful outcomes, identify risks, engage correct stakeholders, etc.

Preferred Experience:

  • Strongly prefer PMI or equivalent certification / relevant experience.

  • SAP experience in a functional/technical/BW role

  • Experience leading projects with international organizations with diverse cultures, business operations and organizational needs.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to work in a high pressure environment, meet deadlines, and simultaneously develop, deploy and coordinate multiple projects.

  • Experience in performing the overall project management role for several medium to large scale project initiatives.

  • Project management experience leading initiatives of 12+ months in duration, 6,000+ person-days of effort, and project teams consisting of 25+ full-time project team members.

  • Deep level of proficiency and understanding of information technology and the linkage between business processes, people and systems.

  • Solid business acumen across multiple functional areas / processes.

  • Experience in industries that include manufacturing and/or distribution functions.

  • Proven ability to effectively communicate ideas and solutions across all levels of the organization, including operational employees, senior management, technical personnel and consultants (written & verbal).

  • Strong facilitation skills to efficiently and effectively drive issue resolution and consensus across all levels of the organization, as well as multiple business units / functional area stakeholders. Well-versed in project management tools and methodology.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :

  • Foreign language proficiency is a plus.

  • Contractor and vendor relationship experience, particularly regarding SAP, including Software Licensing and Professional Services agreements, outsourcing service models, and ASP / hosting agreements.
