Brown-Forman Tax Accountant in Louisville, Kentucky

Supports the Tax Reporting Team in all aspects of tax compliance, including sales/use, property, and income tax compliance. Assists the Tax Reporting Team in the quarterly tax provision process.

  • Provides tax source data and reports to the third-party outsource firm that prepares U.S. sales/use, property tax returns in the U.S and GST returns in Australia and New Zealand

  • Oversees the processing of tax payments through the accounts payable system utilizing SAP/Coupa

  • Responsible for the filing of miscellaneous returns, such as state escheat tax returns, Federal highway use tax return, annual foreign bank account reports, etc

  • Assists the Director of Tax Audits and accounting personnel in the handling of U.S. sales/use tax and property tax audits

  • Assists International Tax Manager with research of international VAT issues as necessary

  • Utilizes SAP and other data to assist the Domestic and International Tax Reporting Teams in the preparation of the consolidated federal income tax return, and state income and franchise tax returns

  • Assists with the calculation of the quarterly tax provision, and the reconciliation of tax accounts

  • Performs quarterly account reconciliations of U.S. sales/use and property tax accounts.

  • Assists in the preparation of apportionment data (payroll, property and sales) for state income tax returns

  • Participates in the review and reconciliation of the fixed asset system for tax purposes, and runs fixed asset and depreciation reports

  • Participates in the calculation of earnings and profits for the Company’s legal entities

  • Assist in the preparation and tracking of stock basis for the Company’s legal entities

  • Maintains documentation and workpapers in support of tax returns and the quarterly tax provision

  • Assist with the maintenance of the Company’s indirect tax determination engine

  • Prepares and maintains formal procedures for the tax compliance processes

  • Assists with data gathering and analysis for other projects as necessary

Required Experience & Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in accounting or business; CPA a plus

  • 1-3 years of experience with some experience in an accounting firm a plus

  • Ability to analyze financial statements, general ledger accounts, and prepare accounting workpapers

  • Some basic income tax and indirect tax knowledge preferred; ability to research and resolve tax issues as they arise

  • Ability to successfully prioritize and complete multiple work assignments

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of internal and external contacts

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint and Google Suite

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

  • Experience with ERP systems (especially SAP) and computer software systems used to gather tax return data and prepare tax returns (e.g., Vertex, OneSource) a plus
