Brown-Forman Temporary Bottling Line Operator in Louisville, Kentucky
The Old Forester Distillery is an interactive, consumer experience designed to showcase the craftsmanship and authenticity of Old Forester, America’s first bottled bourbon. We will give our consumers a look into how Old Forester comes to life and each team member will be responsible for ensuring the integrity and authenticity of this experience as they interact with our consumers throughout their visit of our Homeplace.
JOB SUMMARY: Performs various duties on and off the bottling line in the bottling department as assigned. Prepares and inspects whiskey packages prior to shipment. Performs all duties in a natural work team structure. This role will be part of the operational team that will showcase the craftsmanship and authenticity of Old Forester while also playing an active role in what will be a highly engaging consumer and visitor experience.
This is a part-time temporary position. Hours are Tuesday - Thursday from 9:30 - 6:00.
SCOPE OF POSITION: Identify and respond quickly, in accordance with plant procedures and policies, to safety, quality or operational issues. Consult production manager or bottling line supervisor when critical issues regarding product non-conformance, safety and production issues arise. Communicate in a professional and timely manner with all members of the team, including peers, supervisors and plant leadership, as well as outside contractors, to maintain continuity of production and ensure a safe, efficient working environment for all. PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES: Operates all equipment on the bottling line and fills in for other operators as assigned. Performs off-line work for the bottling department which includes personal selection and Buy the Barrel operation as well as package re-work. Performs all the duties of a laborer, un-caser, filler, inspector, packer and palletizer operator.
Promote accident prevention by adhering to all safety guidelines and standards, actively participating in all required training, identifying, communicating and eliminating potential hazards and maintaining consistent communication with Plant Safety Coordinator and Safety Committee.
Must wear proper safety and quality equipment at all times, including: steel toed/slip resistant safety shoes, hair net or ball cap, ear plugs, safety glasses and cut resistant gloves (as required)
Monitor the quality of product, operational performance and sanitation of bottling area. Requires partnership with Quality Control.
Visually inspects finished product packaging for defects
Removes defective bottles from the line, and re-works if feasible.
Participates in and adheres to all safety and quality guidelines in bottling
Ability to work any shift and/or overtime as required;
Immediately notifies mechanic, supervisor and other team members of line problems;
Monitors dumping of empty glass from cases and inspects for glass defects;
Visually inspects color of whiskey, label placement, video jet on cases and government panel application for all products;
Cleans up broken glass as required;
Collects and records all quality data as required;
Manually applies labels and/or shrink wrap
Manually packs bottles into cases;
Refers to process orders to ensure that the correct packaging materials are placed on bottles;
Maintains cleanliness of work area in all aspects of the job;
Verifies video jet number with process order sheets and records on log sheet;
Visually inspects cases for defects and removes defective cases from the bottling line, repositioning when required;
Completes training to back up to any assigned bottling position such as inspector, un-caser, labeler, strip stamp operator, and others;
Changeover and adjustment of bottling line equipment, as required;
Performs all other duties as assigned by leadership;
Rework non-conforming product.
Demonstrated ability to effectively interact and engage with consumers.
Previous experience in a manufacturing and/or customer service environment.
Ability to interact with visitors as needed to showcase the craftsmanship and authenticity of Old Forester in a positive, engaging style.
Contribute to a positive team atmosphere.
Highly proficient in communicating
Experience working within a high performing work team i.e. working in an environment where there is a shared understanding and accountability of the vision, goals and metrics which in turn promotes teamwork and collaboration to accomplish tasks/results.
Ability to lift or move cases or other items weighing 35-50 pounds;
Walking (monitoring line), reaching upward/downward, repetitive motion of fingers/wrist/arm/shoulder; hand operation of knobs/levers/cranks;
Lifting/pushing/pulling over 50 lbs. may be required for sanitation work.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must pass drug and alcohol screening, background check, physical abilities, technical aptitude and other testing as required.
2-year or 4-year degree
Previous experience in a bottling facility
Previous fork truck experience
Computer and cloud application experience (Word, Excel, Maximo, etc.)
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations (adding, multiplying, etc.)
