Brown-Forman Food Safety & Quality Systems Engineer in Lynchburg, Tennessee

Scope: Responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance, training, and compliance of the Food Safety and Quality Systems for Jack Daniel Distillery, Lem Motlow Prop., a production facility producing over 19 million cases of finished goods annually. Provide guidance and support for managers/supervisors to comply with quality system requirements. Responsible for the Corrective Action and Continuous Improvement Programs. Basic Function: Serves as the PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) for Jack Daniel Distillery, Lem Motlow Prop. Reviews and verifies all daily production documents as outlined in HACCP, FSMA, and SQF programs. Ensures compliance with all Quality Systems and regulatory guidelines.

Scope:

Provide guidance and support for managers/supervisors to comply with quality system requirements. Responsible for the Corrective Action and Continuous Improvement Programs.

Basic Function:

Serves as the PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) for Jack Daniel Distillery, Lem Motlow Prop. Reviews and verifies all daily production documents as outlined in HACCP, FSMA, and SQF programs. Ensures compliance with all Quality Systems and regulatory guidelines.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of the SQF Global Food Safety and ISO 9001:2015 Quality Systems including HACCP plan, writing procedures and auditing documentation for compliance.

Ensures compliance with all policies and procedures related to HACCP, SQF, and ISO 9001, FSMA, and Corporate QA Quality Systems and Housekeeping. Serves as liaison during compliance audits by corporate and external agencies.

Provide guidance to managers, supervisors, and hourly employees to maintain compliance with SQF and ISO 9001:2015 standard, Corporate Quality Systems and Housekeeping program.

Completes all verifications/validations as defined in SQF program.

Performs trend analysis on food safety parameters to identify and mitigate potential threats.

Serves as PCQI and FDQI for the Jack Daniel facility.

Leads Management Review for both ISO and SQF programs, delivering status of progress to management.

Conducts and documents routine internal audits to the SQF and ISO standard to maintain compliance. Manages, directs, and trains internal auditors.

Develop and maintain documentation in ETQ to support the Jack Daniel Quality System, Global Food Safety and ISO compliance. Ensure documents are controlled and document changes are completed in a timely manner to support production needs.

Responsible for the JD South Facility Housekeeping Program. Leads monthly Housekeeping Meetings and maintains records for South Facility sanitation audits. Distributes monthly audits to Department Managers, tracks corrective action responses, analyzes data for trends, and provides guidance on corrective actions to managers to maintain compliance.

Manages Continuous Improvement and corrective action process. Provides direction on appropriate corrective actions and ensure corrective actions are appropriately documented and validated.

Directs and oversees routine maintenance and calibration of all laboratory and production monitoring equipment used Quality Control Department as well as plant operators, to ensure compliance with SQF and ISO 9001:2015 Standard.

Monitors trends in consumer complaints database and reports data to management on a timely basis. Investigates complaints related to food safety.

Ensures all annual and ongoing food safety training is conducted to create a culture of food safety.

Must Requirements: (including any physical requirements):

Bachelor’s Degree and 3+ years quality systems or food safety related experience in a production or related environment.

  • Knowledge of HACCP and GMP’s

  • Knowledge of SQF or GFSI

  • Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 Standard, including Lead Auditor Training or equivalent experience

  • Demonstrated project leadership and interpersonal skills with ability to coordinate efforts of managers of other departments.

  • Demonstrated written communication skills with ability to develop written procedures as well as clear, concise reports of technical data.

  • Demonstrated computer skills including knowledge of SAP or equivalent ERP system, Microsoft Word for Windows, Excel Spreadsheets, and Access Database.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform and interpret statistical analyses.

Preferred Requirements:

B.S. Degree in Food Science, or a degree in a related field accompanied by food manufacturing experience

  • SQF Certified Practitioner

  • FDQI Certification

  • PCQI Certified (preventive controls qualified individual)

  • Relevant professional certifications in Quality Systems such as ASQ Certified Quality Engineer or Certified Quality Auditor.

  • Previous experience with SQF, GFSI, FSMA

  • Experience with EtQ Software, Lucid Charts, and iAuditor

  • Prior experience in Google Docs/Sheets/Slides/Sites

  • Prior Beverage Alcohol Lab Experience
