Brown-Forman Jack Daniel's Senior Buyer in Lynchburg, Tennessee

Responsible for purchasing goods and services for maintenance, repairs & operations and packaging materials. May be responsible for the purchase of grain for all Brown-Forman distilleries. Demonstrate problem solving and decision making skills, take initiative to collaborate, maintain a high level of integrity, confidentiality, and professional ethics. Responsible for the accurate operation and utilization of the procurement portion of SAP.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with maintenance and scheduling personnel in multiple production sites, to support daily plant production as well as ramp up and expediting to support two annual shutdown periods.

  • Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with all internal departments as well as 200+ suppliers and contractors.

  • Trace, monitor and expedite purchase orders and invoices and effectively communicate with internal customers.

  • Be involved with special maintenance and packaging projects from pre-project meetings to close out of the PO’s and invoices.

  • Be involved with the purchase of approximately 14MM bushels of grain for all BF distilleries.

  • Negotiate and manage contracts and blanket purchase orders.

  • Coordinate with all departments and appropriate suppliers to obtain the best quality of materials and services at the lowest overall cost.

  • Cross train with other buyers in the Purchasing department to learn their functions and provide backup as needed.

  • Manage all aspects of vending (PPE and food).

  • Resolve GRIR discrepancies in a timely manner.

  • Maintain files, records and documents related to all purchasing activities including vendor pricing, terms and lead times.

  • P card administration.

  • Vendor chargeback administration.

  • Collect, review and maintain current certificates of insurance.

  • Vendor setup.

  • Manage the weekly Material Status report, including frequent expediting.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field, combined with 5-8 years of experience in purchasing one or more of the following: maintenance, repair, operating supplies, and other production related materials.

  • Demonstrated analytical/mathematical skills, as well as Engineering and/or mechanical related skills.

  • Comfortable giving audiovisual presentations to both suppliers and internal audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate contracts, secure bids, and evaluate requests for quotations.

  • Basic accounting knowledge.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of sales tax regulations to ensure proper application of rates.

  • Demonstrated administrative skills necessary to establish the proper work priorities; ability to act with initiative regarding follow-up and the completion of multiple projects. Knowledge of computer operation and use, with ability to learn SAP system. Experience with statistical based supplier performance management systems.

  • Demonstrated oral communication skills; ability to formulate response to detailed questions in representing corporate policy/practice within function.

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of internal personnel and external supply base.

  • Demonstrated written communication skills; ability to compose final draft memos/project reports. Demonstrated competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Gmail, and Google applications. Demonstrated competency in Internet resources relating to purchasing research

Preferred Requirements:

  • CPSM and/or APICS certification

  • SAP system experience strongly preferred

  • Familiar with manufacturing environment

  • Experience/Knowledge of manufacturing components and suppliers

  • Masters of Business Administration
