Brown-Forman Senior Financial Analyst – Central Europe (Approx 5-6 months) in Prague 1, Czech Republic


Assist the Finance Manager – Italy and Central Europe in providing financial management support and analytical insights to the business management teams of Southern Europe. Support achievement of profit growth targets by providing analytical support and business reporting in the areas of volume, pricing, profitability, cost management, investment effectiveness, etc.. Responsible for reporting, budgeting and planning functions and performing financial analysis for the Southern Europe area, which includes analyzing and communicating financial activities for individual markets as well as the consolidated area. Act as the main financial interface of the area with leadership team of SE, external distributor partners, EU financial teams, accounting (internal B-F and external providers), supply chain, consultants, etc.. Central Europe consists of 18 local economy third party distribution markets (Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Gibraltar, Kosovo, Macedonia, Malta, Montenegro, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark) which represents volumes close to 600K 9L cases, Gross Sales of over $60MM and Brand Profit almost $40MM.

Basic Functions:

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Together with the finance manager and the area commercial leadership teams, build and load annual budget and subsequent projections into B-F planning systems. This includes thoroughly understanding B-F planning processes and systems and ensuring data is submitted timely and accurately.

  • Responsible for identifying and explaining key drivers for variances vs. last year and vs. budget/projections, including monthly assessment of risks and upsides vs. the latest projection.

  • Support the development of long-term strategic plans and multi-year investment case proposals.

  • Independently work with Europe Financial Planning and Accounting teams as needed to resolve issues.

  • Support the preparation of presentations, analyses and documents, including White Papers, relating to the budgets, projections and long term plans.

Commercial Support and Analytical Insights

  • Maintain knowledge of external industry trends, utilizing data sources such IWSR.

  • Through hindsight analytics and forward looking scenario analysis, support decision making in areas such as volume, pricing, margin control, investment efficiency and new SKU introductions.

  • Maintain and analyze price structures/value chain for each market, ensuring the structures properly reflect the current market conditions (transfer prices, margins, shelf pricing, taxes, etc.).

Financial Management & Controllership

  • Provide monthly management reporting and review for the assigned geographies.

  • Participate in and lead financial aspects of monthly business reviews with CE leadership team.

  • Track, analyze and report on discounting and brand expense to ensure that internal and external stakeholders are informed and remain within budgets/projections.

  • Meet regularly with the teams to review performance vs. budgets/projections and to understand outstanding spend commitments.

  • Work with internal and external accounting teams to ensure our financial results are accurately reported (proper expense classification within the P&L line items, properly supported accruals, monitoring of receivables, etc.).

  • Act as key financial contact for distributor partners within assigned geographies, taking part in business reviews, planning meetings, trade visits, etc..

  • Perform annual margin and distributor performance bonus reconciliations.

Ad hoc projects

  • Provide ad hoc support for Central Europe teams on special projects, such as RTC reviews, systems

implementations, market deep dives and strategic plan developments, etc.

Must Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field.

  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions independently based on logical assumptions and factual information.

  • Advanced PC skills, including Excel and Power Point.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects to completion by agreed deadlines.

  • Familiar working with foreign currencies, exchange rates, and conversion factors.

  • Fluent business English, both speaking and writing.

Preferred Experience:

  • 4-6 years experience in the beverage alcohol industry (or other FMCG).

  • Experience with SAP and BW (or similar software).

  • Experience of managing major projects to completion.
