Jack Daniel’s Properties, Inc. (“JDPI”) handles all the intellectual property protection work for Jack Daniel’s and the spirits brands of Brown-Forman Corporation, JDPI's parent company. Brown-Forman, the largest American-owned company in the spirits business, produces and markets many well-known and some of the best-loved spirits in the world. Position Summary: This Attorney will work at the direction of the Chief IP Counsel in the clearance, enforcement, and licensing of our IP rights.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and recommend strategies in enforcement actions

  • Responsible for the legal aspects of the trademark licensing group; make recommendations in the negotiation of trademark license agreements and related disputes; draft related deal memos, long-form agreements, etc.

  • Manage the day-to-day needs of our IP cases

  • Conduct trademark availability searches and prepare risk analysis reports

  • Manage trademark prosecution and renewal activities

  • Assist marketing lawyers and paralegals with review of ads and promotional materials for IP issues

  • Work with internal personnel worldwide to obtain necessary information and follow-up re all the above

  • Collaborate on the management of and communicate directly with outside counsel in more than 150 countries

  • Will manage applicable legal support staff

Must Requirements:

  • JD from an accredited U.S. law school

  • 7-10 years of experience in trademark enforcement, licensing, prosecution, and clearance in the US and Internationally.

  • Communicate well, especially in writing and interpersonal skills, including with non-lawyers

  • Work well on a team

  • Manage legal support staff

  • Perform other IP-related legal tasks which affect the Company's valuable brands

  • Work proficiently with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Legal matters are tracked in WebTMS. Email is on Gmail.

  • Navigate and interact fluently on the Web and in social media

  • Travel occasionally, sometimes internationally

  • Valuable Skills: Working knowledge of alcoholic beverages or other consumer products, especially in non-U.S. markets.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Consumer brands experience

  • Experience from both a major law firm and an in-house position
