Brown-Forman Temporary Staff Accountant (6 Month Assignment) in San Rafael, California

NOTE: THIS IS A TEMPORARY 6 MONTH ASSIGNMENT

This position will supporting the Controller as a Staff Accountant and help with implementing new accounting software and associated applications. The estimated length of the assignment would be six months starting in January 2019. Initially this position will focus on 3rd quarter close preparations and trademark legal fee budget preparations. After the final software selection this position would assist with the implementation process for the new accounting software. Finally, this position would support year-end close and assessment of headcount needed under the new system.

Responsibilities:

  • Track trademark legal expense used for reporting trademarks by matter, brand, operating group and tax entities.

  • Analyze spend by operating group and tax entity and explain variances. Propose necessary journal entries.

  • Responsible for cash, A/R and A/P entries for monthly close including A/P invoice entry. Reconcile related G/L accounts conforming to JDPI’s policy.

  • Manage royalty accounting including top level audits of licensee royalty reports for accuracy, record licensees’ accruals and payments and track each licensees’ activity against license terms.

  • Prepare commission statements for licensing agents.

  • Manage cash flow ensuring sufficient funds for operations and proper utilization of excess cash.

  • Manage annual trademark legal budget including sourcing budget information and analyzing current year cost trends and applying those trends to propose budget amounts.

  • Work as part of implementation team to design, implement and use new accounting software.

  • Advise on-going headcount need for fully functioning software.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and 1 to 3 years in a corporate accounting department or equivalent experience

  • High proficiency in Excel, including Pivot Tables, V-Look Up, Index Match, If Then Statements

  • A high standard of excellence and attention to detail

  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to write complex thoughts for readability and tact

  • A team player who demonstrates a partnering attitude and capability
