Why Does This Job Exist?
Lead, facilitate and coordinate the ongoing financial strategy and analysis, as well as provide inputs and insights during budgeting and forecasting periods for assigned brands and markets within Canada. This includes the analysis of the brand/market performance for the entire Canadian P&L (from volumes to operating income), incorporating both internal and external (i.e. competitive brands) data and metrics within the analytics. This position will also complete journal entries (discounting accruals, SG&A and T&E accruals, etc.). Responsibilities will also include full financial reporting responsibility, special requests, miscellaneous projects and financial/operational tasks related to various brands/markets.
What You Will Experience :
Act as a thought partner to Country Manager, as well as other Canada leadership, to help grow the business profitably. Assess the Canadian Beverage Alcohol category and develop strategies to grow our business faster than our competition.
Develop channel specific business plan in collaboration with sales leads with execution goals and tracking in accordance with Brown Forman imperatives. Establish monthly/quarterly execution priorities, goals and tracking.
Organize monthly and quarterly meetings with sales teams to communicate and provide clarity to the business plan and results.
Financial Analysis & Management
Receive and analyze monthly financial information relating to assigned brands and geographies. Analyze this information, including performance relative to budgets, prior year, competitive set or category. Recognize and communicate reasons for differences between planned and actual performance throughout the P&L.
Provide value added analysis that helps to drive profitability through logical approaches. Identify new growth opportunities. Work with region personnel in the development of corrective plans designed to improve financial performance. Communicate findings and conclusions across all functions.
Ensure monthly journal entries (discounting accruals, SG&A and T&E accruals, etc.) are completed accurately and timely. Identify and communicate any potential issues to Managers.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Work with local and region management to determine budgets and forecasts relating to assigned brands and geographies. This includes requesting, receiving and analyzing appropriate information, as well as getting this information into the proper systems and formats. This responsibility requires frequent communication with cross-functional teams (sales, marketing, finance, etc.) throughout the region and USA&C.
Set the tone for positive communication and collaboration with peers, colleagues and management. Share best practices and nurture an affirmative team environment and culture.
Suggest cost savings opportunities when applicable to all members of the Canada team.
Communicate with the Canada Country Manager and B-F management team on an ongoing basis to ensure that regional marketing strategies are understood and supportive of provincial brand and portfolio strategies. Collaborate on national reviews and general business presentations.
Work closely with broker to monitor and oversee the commercial partnership terms as well as field financial activities across the regions. Ensure accounting controls are in place and compliance to BF accounting procedure is known throughout the broker. Course correct and lead audits if necessary.
Provide one on one coaching, establish yearly performance metrics and review both accomplishments and areas of development with direct report routinely.
What You Bring To The Table:
Bachelor's degree and/or professional financial designation in Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration plus 5-7 years of financial analysis experience in the beverage or CPG industries; or education and experience equivalent
Interpersonal skills combined with strong oral and written communication skills.
Proven ability to independently organize work projects.
Ability to collect, analyze data and present results in a concise actionable format.
Demonstrated proficiency in Excel and Powerpoint.
Demonstrates good business sense, including the ability to correctly analyze financial information, and make effective and efficient use of financial resources to achieve optimal results from the brands. Ability to utilize appropriate financial, competitive, and brand data to determine appropriate pricing structures and margins for the broker.
Proven ability to understand and communicate the financial impact of business processes and decisions on brands, Brown-Forman, broker and retailers.
