Brown-Forman Jack Daniel Cooperage Maintenance and Engineering Manager in Trinity, Alabama
Responsible for all maintenance, boiler operations, plant facilities and systems and provides engineering support at the Jack Daniel Cooperage (JDC). Responsible for a plant maintenance budget of approximately $3 million and supporting capital projects and their associated budget. Directly and indirectly supervises the activities of two salaried positions and approximately 18 highly skilled maintenance technicians, on 3 shifts.
Serves as the liaison with Corporate Engineering, coordinates engineering work with contractors and consultants and cooperage operations management. Partners with Corporate Engineering with engineering related activities as necessary, including cost reduction, productivity improvement, regulatory required and modernization projects. Develops and executes the capital and major maintenance budgets and the JDC Maintenance/Boiler Operations departmental budgets. Provides direction and support to the site maintenance team and is responsible for all plant maintenance and boiler operations. Ensures that all engineering and maintenance activities and areas of responsibility adhere to required regulatory, safety, environmental and quality requirements and provides for the training and development of subordinates.
Responsible for all maintenance, facilities upkeep and boiler operations at JDC. Provides direction and support to the maintenance employees; sets policy and establishes procedures for the department; and, monitors and manages maintenance and boiler operations and activities to ensure productive, efficient operations, compliant with all Corporate, JD Cooperage and regulatory requirements. 40%
Provides engineering support to the JDC operations and facilities. Coordinates with Corporate Engineering to develop, implement, and support engineering projects and process improvements for cost savings, productivity improvement, equipment replacement and modernization, facility repair and improvement and to meet quality, safety, environmental or other regulatory requirements. Provides leadership for the application of Continuous Improvement Pillars, tools and training to meet business objectives. 20%
Prepares and presents capital, major maintenance and departmental budgets for areas of responsibility and manages projects and operations within budget. May assist other areas such as production operations in preparing annual budgets as needed. 10%
Performs cost and productivity analysis and studies; assists operations management in developing and establishing performance standards, standard operating procedures and measured day work standards and assists in training and instruction in conjunction with new equipment installations or process changes. 10%
Stays abreast of changing regulatory, environmental, safety, OSHA and other requirements through training and education as they pertain to engineering and maintenance support. Provides for the general growth and development of subordinate staff, establishes performance standards and monitors and evaluates performance within these standards. 10%
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, Industrial, Chemical or Civil Engineering with minimum of 5 years applicable leadership experience in a manufacturing environment, or minimum of 10 years leadership oversight of maintenance and engineering in a manufacturing environment.
Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and the ability to prepare and present finished reports and project updates using word processing, spreadsheet or other computer applications. Ability to climb stairs and ladders, climb over and under conveyors and generally move about in a manufacturing environment in the course of inspecting, observing and managing operations.
Previous managerial systems experience supervising maintenance operations in an industrial environment. A Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree or Master’s Degree in Engineering.
