Brown-Forman Woodford Reserve 3rd Shift Quality Control Specialist in Versailles, Kentucky

Job Description:

3rd Shift Hours - 11:00 P.M. - 7:30 A.M.

Scope of Position

Responsible for serving as site resource on the qualitative analysis of raw materials, intermediates, and product samples collected throughout whiskey production process. Responsible for serving as site resource on materials and finished package issues. Provides guidance to all employees in the interpretation and application of related quality standards. Responsible for operating and maintaining calibration precision lab equipment valued at over $150,000.00.

Basic Function

Conducts or supervises audits of incoming or stored materials, work in process, and finished goods. Determines dispositions of materials and finished goods, including placing incoming material, in-process materials and finished goods on hold. Conducts acceptance testing on incoming new materials per company specifications and guidelines.



  • Monitors the production and processing of all whiskeys to insure process sampling per Quality Control requirements.

  • Recommends adjustments and corrections to bring products to standard during processing on the shift.

  • Conducts annual/on-going training for bottling and operations on identification and response to material defects and other quality issues relating to packaging.

  • Assists bottling and operations in resolving process and operational issues as they relate to quality. Conducts quality system audits.

  • Develops and maintains quality documentation.

  • Collaborates with appropriate departments to develop corrective and preventive actions as required to maintain or improve package quality.

  • Collects and analyzes quality data related to materials and finished goods, providing reports and recommendations to plant leadership and quality assurance.

  • Works closely with vendor contacts to resolve material quality issues in a timely fashion.

  • Maintains detailed quality records for use in compliance resolution, problem solving, and vendor chargebacks.

  • Participates in Cost-of-Quality tracking for bottling.

  • Participate in continuous improvement projects, including operational problem resolutions and process standardization.

  • Explore innovation in terms of technology, people, processes and systems.

  • Utilize resources, internal and external, effectively

  • Help develop short and long term quality objectives.

Cost Containment

  • Leverage resources effectively to meet plant KPIs per budget standards

  • Explore opportunities for cost savings, supporting cost containment projects as appropriate.


  • Maintain a safe work environment and promote accident prevention by eliminating potential hazards.

  • Understand and adhere to federal, state and local regulations.

  • Actively support site EHS compliance metrics.

Must Requirements (including any physical requirements):

  • Bachelor Degree in Chemistry or related field i.e. chemical engineering, science etc. OR working toward completion of degree and applicable experience working in a lab setting or related environment using analytical methods and laboratory procedures including general laboratory equipment.

  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills; ability to compose memos and project reports.

  • Demonstrated analytical, mathematical and related science skills to apply to procedures and QC tools.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships.

  • Maintain awareness and demonstrates willingness to conform to all hygiene and sanitation requirements as detailed in the Quality Standards.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Professional certifications related to quality control, quality systems, and analytical chemistry

  • Knowledge of SAP or related software#SM#TSM
