Brown-Forman Woodford Reserve Assistant Plant Production Leader - Distillery in Versailles, Kentucky

Coordinate and supervise distillery operations, including milling, yeasting, mashing, fermentation, distillation, and barrel filling, in accordance with company standards and government regulations for an 850,000 proof gallon/year site. Provide direct supervision and leadership for a team of five distillery operators, optimizing individual professional development and team performance. Ensure a safe workplace by taking a proactive approach to improving and maintaining safe work conditions and practices. Under direction of Production Manager, develop production schedules and ensure all personnel, materials and equipment needs are met.

Responsibilities

Safety/Environmental

  • Maintain a safe work environment and promote accident prevention by eliminating potential hazards and serving as a site first responder

  • Understand and adhere to federal, state and local regulations

  • Actively own relevant aspects of site EHS compliance metrics

  • Manage and drive key leader metrics, including conducting Take a Minute for safety, performing area assessments and resolving all corrective actions in a timely manner

Morale

  • Apply inclusive leader strategies to nurture a work environment where all employees feel empowered to bring their whole and best selves to work each day

  • Actively seek diversity of thought when working to solve problems, overcome challenges and innovate

  • Proactively communicate key insights on team morale to leadership team and HR in support of continuous improvement

  • Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, across all levels of the organization

  • Ensure uniform application of company policies and procedures for personnel, including administering and/or reviewing disciplinary actions

Quality

  • Manage operational performance against master schedule for area housekeeping and sanitation to meet or exceed plant KPIs

  • Partner with QC to monitor the quality of production, end products and operational performance and quality and area sanitation, supporting RCCAs as needed

Productivity

  • Ensure team members are driving toward a highly safe and clean work environment as key priorities for the site

  • Integrate within the team to support and perform, as needed, all activities related to distillery operations, ensuring thorough understanding of all work processes and requirements

  • Review, edit as necessary and submit time in Workday for the distillery operators

  • Communicate the daily work schedule and expectations for the department, coordinating with the work team to determine necessary staffing and support needs

  • Update, create and implement standard operating procedures to accurately and effectively run operations

  • Develop, implement and evaluate job specific skills training for each individual employee, coordinating efforts with natural work teams

  • Partner with the HR and finance teams to project required staffing needs

  • Partner with Maintenance and Engineering team, leveraging work order processes, Preventive Maintenance program, and other systems to optimize equipment and facility performance

Continuous Improvement

  • Support team in operational problem solving, continuous improvement and standardization of production processes

  • Engage in TPM training and integration into Woodford Reserve organization and support ongoing efforts to improve OEE, exploring innovation in terms of technology, people, processes and systems

  • Utilize resources, internal and external, effectively

  • Develop as a continuous improvement leader within the organization, actively engaging in Continuous Improvement project and pillar teams

Cost Containment

  • Leverage resources effectively to meet plant KPIs per budget standards

  • Proactively identify, analyze and implement cost savings project opportunities in alignment with Production Manager

Must Requirements:

  • Associate degree in a science discipline such as chemistry, biology, physics or engineering with a minimum 1-2 years manufacturing leadership experience, or, in lieu of degree, at least 4 years manufacturing leadership experience, preferably in the distilled spirits industry

  • Demonstrated technical acumen and experience with Google platform (Docs, Sheets, etc.)

  • Strong communication skills

  • Demonstrated analytical/mathematical skills

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships with all levels of personnel/external contacts

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and complete workload within designated time frame

  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude to assess performance of equipment utilized in production operations

  • Ability to work flexible schedule and overtime as needed

Preferred Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science discipline such as chemistry, biology, physics or engineering

  • Distillery experience
