Brown-Forman Quality Assurance Manager in Finland
What You Will Do in This Role:
Responsible for overseeing and managing quality of Finlandia vodka products produced by Co-Packer Altia Plc. Establish and build strong professional relationships with the Co-Packers and all material suppliers for products produced by the Co-Packer to Brown-Forman.
Manage the quality at the Co-Packer (Altia Plc). Provide direction and support to the Co-Packer in projects related to new products, line extensions or packaging materials. Leads the establishment and maintenance of quality levels of products through the execution of quality systems and food safety management systems at designated external manufacturing sites. Drives continuous improvements initiatives and to coach and develop the local QC resources technical and system competencies. Responsible for the leadership, development, implementation and management of all Quality Assurance programs, projects, activities and provides technical expertise to ensure compliance to GFSI, Brown-Forman QA systems, regulatory requirements, product quality, and food safety. Utilizes tools such as auditing, process evaluation, complaint analysis, trend analysis to achieve continuous improvement and business objectives.
Who We Are:
Brown Forman Finland (BFF) was founded November 2013 when Finlandia Vodka Worldwide sold its assets to newly established Finnish jurisdiction. BFF is part of American Brown-Forman Corporation and the company’s seat is in Finland. BFF owns Finland Vodka tradename and as part of B-F group develops the Finlandia Vodka trademark and oversees operations & projects related to the Finlandia production process. BFF deliveries and controls the order and delivery process. BFF manages plants in Finland, Latvia and Estonia via third party co-packing and logistic partners. In Finland payroll there are teams from region, brand, finance and production; meaning that BFF has sales, marketing, brand and product development and external manufacturing activities in its books. Brown-Forman is responsible for the worldwide sales and marketing of Finlandia Vodka.
What You Will Experience:
Co-Packer Quality Management
o Ensure the Co-Packer adheres to the product and package specifications as well as quality standards provided by the Co-Packer Manual and Quality Systems Manual. Provide revisions and updates to the Co-Packer Quality Manual.
o Ensure compliance of the audit programs for internal and external audits i.e SQF, B-F QA Audit, BRCS, GFSI, ISO17025, etc.
o Conduct Quality Systems and Hygiene and Sanitation Audits at the Co-Packer once a year.
o Monitor the overall quality of Finlandia Vodka products on a continuous basis, provide support in resolving quality issues and initiate improvements through
o Execute GAP analysis of quality and food safety systems and drive investigations and RCCA/CAPA to prevent issue reoccurrence.
o Creation of Global Brown-Forman QA policies, procedures, and forms as to assure alignment of QA systems across global business.
o Ensure compliance to Brown-Forman, local, and federal standards. Identify and apply “Best Practices” within the facility or from the broader network.
Projects and initiatives related to new packages or packaging materials
o Manage the Co-Packer in new package projects or packaging material change initiatives.
o Coordinate with B-F Packaging related to any technical packaging material changes initiated by Altia or the vendors. Ensure only approved packaging materials are used. Coordinate packaging material testing at Packaging Lab.
o Attends packaging material production runs when needed.
New Product and Line extension introductions
o Collaborate with R&D and other project team members in new introductions, assess capabilities with regard to quality.
o Ensure proper startup of new products at facilities, achieving agreed upon timelines and compliance with Brown-Forman requirements.
o Act as a liaison between the Co-Packer (Altia Plc), BF R&D, Engineering, QA, and Packaging.
o Promote quality awareness and ownership across the value chain.
o Make sure Co-Packer maintains appropriate records such as QC Results, non-conformances, Corrective Action Reports, customer, and vendor complaints to demonstrate compliance with specifications and documented procedures.
Sensory and Analytical Control – Laboratory Capabilities
o Ensure Co-Packer is trained in BF sensory and analytical methods. Ensure that their equipment is able to meet BF specification and calibration program and that benchmark testing is in place.
o Ensure Co-Packers production site subscribe to generally accepted Good Manufacturing Processes and meet food standards and applicable country specific regulations; ensure Co-Packer is in possession of (and follow) current BF specifications. Ensure the Co-Packer (Altia Plc) has maintenance and calibration programs in place. Ensure critical control point procedures are established and adhered to. Ensure BF housekeeping and sanitation procedures are followed to avoid any cross contamination, ensure agreed sampling plan is followed.
o Ensure Co-Packer communicates complaints. Follow-up on vendor complaints and, as required, ensure that corrective actions are taken and adhered to. Make recommendations for changes to suppliers as required for smooth and cost-effective operation of the business. Liaise with BFF and BF Packaging to facilitate the introduction of new suppliers to the operation.
o Coordinate Finlandia Vodka Kosher certificate process
o Manage and coordinate counterfeit suspect sample analyses. Act as a liaison to JDPI.
o Consult with local authority Valvira on any specific questions on labeling and packaging marking of products produced in Finland
o Keep BFF Product Certificates file updated with any new products
Follow-up EU Customs regulations
What You Bring to the Table:
● A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemistry, Business, or similar discipline or equivalent experience
● Demonstrable experience in production or quality management or the equivalent.
● Must have strong knowledge and understanding of food safety / HACCP, GMP’s, Allergen Controls, Sanitary design/controls, pest control, basic food regulations, specifications, analytical and microbiological lab methods desired, & basic food technologies.
● Ability to do thorough root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventative actions.
● A demonstrated ability to work effectively and cooperatively with a diversity of people both with local and multinational operations.
● Ability to communicate and interact smoothly with people at all levels of different organizations.
● Self-motivated, fast-learning, with good general knowledge – able to liaise on matters involving chemistry and packaging technology.
● Fluent in Finnish and English minimum. Additional languages preferred.
● Willing to travel within Europe.
