Brown-Forman Manager - Maintenance and Engineering in Louisville, Kentucky

Meaningful Work From Day One:

Directs, coordinates, and supervises the activities of two salaried employees and up to 17 skilled crafts employees in the annual distillation of approx. 20 million OPG’s distilled spirits and warehousing for 350K barrels of premium bourbons. This role will provide critical technical leadership for major capital projects and ensure the team has solutions for driving safety, quality, and achieving performance metrics. The Engineering and Maintenance Manager is expected to set tactical strategic direction for the site.

Develop and execute capital and maintenance projects ($5-$10M annually), including cost reduction, continuous improvement, regulatory and modernization projects for the Brown Forman Distillery. Manage the capital and maintenance operational budget. Provide direction and support for all plant maintenance, ensuring that all engineering and maintenance activities and areas of responsibility adhere to required regulatory, safety, environmental and quality requirements. Support training and development of hourly and salaried direct reports. Serve as liaison to corporate engineering and coordinate work with contractors, consultants, and plant leaders.

Provide direction and oversight for the installation, preventative and corrective measures taken in adherence with the Planned Maintenance and Early Equipment Management pillars. Lead structural improvement processes to ensure housekeeping and sanitation

  • Productivity - Lead continued integration and improvements of the CMMS (eMaint) system to optimize efficiency and reliability, leveraging the Maintenance Coordinator for day-to-day administrative oversight. Lead and execute engineering projects for the site. Assist operations management in developing and establishing performance standards and SOPs in conjunction with new equipment installations or process changes. Support the growth and development of team members. Stays current on technologies and engineering trends in order to recommend/incorporate as appropriate. Familiar with HACCP and Food Certification requirements. Provides direction to the team and incorporates standards into daily routines.

  • Continuous Improvement - In-depth advanced knowledge of formal TPM programs. Provide leadership for the integration of TPM methodologies into daily routines. Accountable for strategy, design and implementation of control systems and manufacturing information systems. Accountable for working with the BFDO Leadership team to develop and establish engineering and maintenance standards across BFDO. Support team in operational problem resolution, including optimization, eliminating limitations, and bench-marking activities. Submit Capital Appropriations Requests, including vendor sourcing and account responsibility.

  • Cost Containment - Manage labor/overhead budget to optimize resources and cost-efficiency. Lead the creation of capital and maintenance operational budgets. Identify, implement and execute cost-savings initiatives. Leverage resources effectively to meet plant KPIs per budget standards.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • College/University (Bachelors or Equivalent); Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

  • 8 years Engineering, Maintenance, or related Operations Experience.

  • Demonstrated experience Leading Engineering and Maintenance teams in a Manufacturing Environment preferably beverage/food/related environment including goal setting, establishing performance standards, change management and driving employee engagement, accountability and enablement.

  • Experience with Manufacturing Improvement Methodologies. i.e. Zero Loss culture, Continuous Improvement, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing.

  • Project management experience including design, development and implementation.

  • Proactive and strategic mindset with the ability to innovate and execute automation strategies.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to influence, develop, and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of the workforce including internal and external partners.

  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and the ability to prepare and present finished reports and project updates using G-Suite or other computer applications.

  • Ability to work additional hours and/or shifts to meet departmental goals, including weekends as needed.

What Makes You Unique:

  • Masters Degree (M.A., MBA or Equivalent);

  • 12-years engineering leadership experience, Capital Project Management, World Class Maintenance Practices.

  • Demonstrated experience with control systems and controls integration. Previous experience with Allen-Bradley, FactoryTalk, Logix 5000, Phase Manager, PlantPAx, RSLinx, Rockwell Software, Rockwell Automation, Sequence Manager, Studio 5000 Logix, or equivalent Logix’s experience, automation and controls development, PLC and HMI program development, AB PowerFlex Series
