Meaningful Work From Day One

The Senior Quality Control Specialist is responsible for:

● Directing the processes and material quality control of incoming raw and test materials.

● Performs and directs the monitoring and quality control of product throughout the process as well as package quality for bottling, distillery, and cooperage.

● Coordinates the sampling, treatment, and adjustment of products being processed for daily production.

● Responsible for implementation as well as maintenance of the food safety management system and relevant certifications (SQF).

● Ensure execution of the audit programs for internal and external audits i.e., SQF, B-F QA Audit

● Responsible for performing the qualitative analysis of raw materials, intermediates, and product samples collected throughout the spirits production process. Has ultimate authority regarding chemical analysis, treatment, adjustment, and approval for production.

● Operates precision lab equipment.

What You Can Expect

● Lead the activities of Quality Control which includes material and product quality control, finished goods quality control, and sanitation.

● Partners with operations and packaging departments to ensure material and product quality commensurate with established specifications.

● Serves as product representative on project teams as required coordinating material test runs ensuring smooth introduction of new products and/or changes to current products.

● Ensure Material Discrepancy Reports are initiated and follow through with associated corrective actions.

● Works with operations, suppliers and finance to collect and analyze data for Material discrepancies.

● Monitors the production and processing of bourbon to ensure it meets Quality Control requirements.

● Plans, organizes, and conducts chemical, qualitative and organoleptic analysis on in- process and finished product samples, incoming beverage alcohol product receipts, RO water system and select raw materials to ensure adherence to manufacturing and quality standards.

● Partners with analytical and sensory teams to ensure team members are properly trained to conduct chemical, qualitative, and or organoleptic testing and follow up to ensure accuracy after initial training.

● Monitors the production and quality of the cooperage to ensure it meets Quality Control requirements.

● Recommends adjustments and corrections to bring products to standard.

● Ensures documentation and management of all changes, corrective actions, and materials that do not meet manufacturing or quality standards.

● Partners with Operations on root cause analysis for process breakdowns, developing and executing associated corrective actions.

● Monitors finished package appearance on the Bottling lines taking appropriate action, placing materials, or cases on hold as needed.

● Monitors and reviews production paperwork to verify accuracy of batch and tank information.

● Oversees testing on incoming materials for whiskey, barrels, mash, processing and bottling, completing the necessary paperwork and contacting vendors as needed.

● Conducts monthly HK&S and quality systems audits, making suggestions for improvement when necessary.

● Ensures the calibration and the functionality on all lab equipment within OFD is maintained.

● Maintains the main quality lab and mini support labs and orders all laboratory supplies to ensure testing supplies are available.

● Oversees data trends on all products to write variances, adjust specs, change formulas/procedures, and to keep other Brown-Forman departments, i.e. Quality Assurance, informed of any significant trends.

● Leads the Quality portion of the EHS and Quality (EHSQ) Committee with monthly meetings and projects to continually drive to improve the standards and culture

● Partners with operations, maintenance and corporate team to ensure success for the annual Quality Audits and monthly metrics are met, including setting up systems to ensure success across departments.

● Monitors and updates quality programs to comply with regulatory and internal requirements.

● Monitors pest control efforts at the plant.

● Partners with operations to develop and implement Work Instructions, Standard Operating Procedures, to ensure consistent and high quality products.

● Partners with Quality Assurance and Analytical services to complete data analysis of customer complaints.

● Partners with Analytical services and Sensory to submit samples for regulatory and internal requirements.

● Backup support during Holidays and weekends for Operations Supervisor and Sr Planning and Procurement Specialist.

This position will work a Tuesday-Saturday schedule.

What You Bring to the Table

● Bachelor’s degree in a science discipline such as Chemistry, Food Science, Biology or related field and a minimum 5 years of experience in beverage/food industry in quality control

● Knowledge of analytical methods and laboratory procedures, including general laboratory equipment.

● Food safety training (SQF, FSSC 22000, BRC).

● PCQI certification.

● Demonstrated ability to apply comprehensive knowledge of analytical procedures and techniques to the completion of complex assignments. Demonstrated olfactory/sensory discriminating skill.

● Lifting and carrying from the ground to waist height up to 50 pounds and pushing/pulling up to 100 poun
