Brown-Forman Accounting Manager - Korea in Seoul, South Korea

Our business in Korea is growing and diverse. This role is responsible for Brown-Forman’s Korea US GAAP and local statutory accounting. It ensure the accuracy and integrity of Brown-Forman’s financial records with respect to (a) US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), (b) local accounting standards, and (c) all relevant tax regimes, including US and local corporate income tax and indirect taxes (Excise and VAT). This role will assist the Regional Controller in providing accounting and controlling advice on potential transactions or business changes. It will also serve as a business partner to senior corporate and divisional management by communicating quantitative and qualitative information in a clear and accurate manner to support management decision making. This role will lead the Accounting and GBS team which is made up of senior accountant and junior analysts.

What You Can Expect

Integrity of Financial Records

  • Responsible for ensuring all financial records are maintained in accordance with US GAAP and local statutory regulations in a timely and accurate manner.

  • This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting and tax compliance activities (Excise, VAT) including month end closing, preparation and submission of various tax returns and legal statutory audit.

  • Review and analyze balance sheet reconciliations, reasonableness and provide explanation to their fluctuations

  • Own the rebates processing process and ensure their accuracy and timeliness. Collaborate closely with Finance and Commercial team on accurate accruals and releases and provide a robust discounts/ rebates analytics in the balance sheet

  • Ensure a robust internal control system by identifying control gaps, establish local policies & processes and ensure segregation of duties.

  • Partner with GBS PTP & CCCA Process Lead to lead the PTP & CCCA team based in Korea to ensure all reports are delivered on time, processes are seamless, payments to vendors are on time, customers overdue amounts are being investigated and promptly action on.

  • Lead the statutory audit process, coordinating with different teams to support the external audit process whether is Customs or Local Statutory audit. Responds to any inquiries on financial results or special reporting requests etc

Business Partnering and Internal Controls

  • Collaborating closely with all the functional areas in Korea and maintaining a productive working relationship with internal stakeholders Communicate financial data (quantitative & qualitative) in a timely, clear and concise manner.

  • Support and proactively participate in Finance and Commercial led projects by providing technical accounting expertise.

  • Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and policies to ensure appropriate internal controls are in place and in accordance with corporate policies and SOX

  • Responsible for the organizational training calendar in Korea for specific accounting related topics

Organizational and people management

  • Provide leadership and coaching to the accounting and GBS team to support their personal and professional growth. Guidance on B-F Code of Conduct. Ensure resources are efficiently allocated to meet business growth needs or external complexities.

Process optimization

  • Improve or develop efficient processes by streamlining processes while maintaining a high level of accuracy to enhance workflow. Identifying process gaps and improvement opportunities. Partner with GBS PTP, CCCA & IT in prioritizing projects and resources that helps with digitalising our current processes.

Ad hoc projects

  • Participate in projects leading to significant growth for the Company. This position is assigned to major projects requiring high level analysis, change management skills and significant business judgment. This includes but is not limited to IT systems, Tax Strategy, Treasury and Transfer Pricing projects.

  • Be a proactive participant of the regional accounting team, identifying opportunities and best practices across the Asia Pacific region.

What You Bring to the Table

  • Bachelor's degree (or non-US equivalent) in Accounting or Finance required; advanced degree preferred.

  • Certifications: ACCA, CPA or UK CIMA or similar internationally recognized advanced accounting qualification.

  • Demonstrable working experience in the accounting or shared service field with demonstrated experience in leading a team

  • Strong people leadership skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze financial statements, general ledger accounts, and prepare accounting workpapers.

  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to review processes to determine any gaps and generate ideas for process improvement.

  • SAP experience.

  • Fluent in English and Korean both verbally and written
